Default Possible new xB owner seeking advice.

I have the opportunity to get a used 2004 TCM xB. It has no mods and no accessories so is basically a blank canvas so I can do whatever I want with it. The body and interior are in excellent condition with the exception that the previous owner was a smoker and there is a slight yellowing discoloration of the headliner in the vehicle and there is still the smoke smell in the car. I can get the vehicle detailed and take care of the discoloration and odors.

My biggest concern on this used vehicle is that it has a lot of miles on it ... 60,800 miles to be exact. If this was a domestic make I would be concerned with that mileage but with a Toyota product I am less concerned. I can get the vehicle for a great deal and the carfax checked out that there has been no problems that have been reported. I plan on bringing it by a mechanic to have a quick once over to make sure there isn't anything wrong with it mechanically. Does anyone have experience with a high mileage xB? Have there been any maintenance issues? Anything I should look for or be concerned about?

There is a used '05 PW xB for sell locally as well but they want $3k more for it. It only has around 22k miles on it and has the rear spoiler and fog lights. I prefer the white xB but I can't really afford the extra $3k.

Any advice? Comments? Suggestions?

For the '04 TCM xB they are asking $10,995.

For the '05 PW xB they are asking $13,995 but I could talk him down to around $13,600.

I dont know man its up to u i would personally want the newer one, but if u cant afford it the other one sounds like a deal. I wouldnt worry about the High mileage except for when u want to sell it.

Mine has 78,000 miles and I have had no issues with it. I do change
the oil every 5000. Ya they recommend 3000, i used to do that.

About the only thing I might worry about is it needing brakes or, if it is a manual, a clutch. Those are the only wear items I would worry much about on a decently cared for box.

Get the one you can afford (but obviously I'm partial to Polar White).

Good luck!

An xA is just an xB they buffed all the corners off of, Chops...

Won't work. I'm 6'-7" tall and I don't fit in an xA.

A brand new one is only 3,000 more than the 04. I'd go new. Other than that, based on the echo, 68,000 miles is'nt that much.

wtf? how di you get all the miles on it so fast? deliveries? outside sales? LOL. but I am glad to hear of no problems with that many miles

go with the newer one. besides, like you said, you like the PW better! I waited an extra 3 months to get mine in back in 04 and I am glad I waited. got what I wanted

I'm not sure why, but I'd be very leery of the high mileage '04... from the pricetag, sounds like you're buying from a lot, so there's no communicating with the original owner, no maintenance records, no way to know if it's been properly serviced... People who pound on the miles quickly often neglect things like oil changes- they're too busy driving... and they plan on trading it in before problems develop...

I think I would go new also. The sticker on my new 2006 xB was $14,690, that was with destination. Something to consider. It is a base model, no add ons at all.

Cheap car = good. New car = better! rs 4.0 xB maybe the xBest thing ever! If you're financing, buying a new xB as opposed to either used xB may be a better deal for you financially in the long run. (lower interest rate on new with dealer or credit union financing as opposed to pick-a-bank-card rates) I wouldn't worry about mileage at this young age, but as Thomas pointed out repair bills can really hurt! Remember this isn't just a car, it's an icon! Get the color you love! We waited a few weeks to have ours built and shipped. Worth every bit of it. I will likely be the only owner my BCP xB ever knows.

I too was thinking of buying used, but bought new. If you get a 5 yr note, its not THAT big of a difference is it?

BTW I paid off my '01camry last December. Bought it new in Dec '00... and I just now flipped 60k! hehehe My wife and I live close to where we work.

I think I just now turned 3k on my xb. I bought it in June this yr.
