Default Power door locks not working WTF

Well I hoped put of the box today and pushed the lock button on the keyless entry and my driver side door did not lock but all the other doors did. I tried it a couple more times and it still did not work.

So I took off the interior door skin and had a snoop around. Every thing to do with the locking system is pretty hard to see but nothing was obstructed.

When I put everything back to gather I tried using the door buttons and the same thing all three other doors locked and unlocked but not the drivers door. It dose move a little up and down but will not fully lock or unlock. And yes I can manually lock and unlock the door.

Anyone else have this happen to them? Dose any one have any idea what the problem may be? Maybe a burnt out motor?

the motor might be getting a bit old.. i've seen problems exactly like yours.

i'd go to the dealership to get that part replaced.

That sucks big time because i live in Canada and we have no Scion dealships here. So i have to go to Toyota and they will charge atleast double to get the part.

Any one else have any ideas before i go and get the part?

Thanks

"Apply power to the window motor, if it works, then it's your window master switch!"

My window works perfectly fine. What do you mean by window master switch?

^^^Nevermind. For a second there, for some oddball reason, I thought you were talking about your window not working...sorry man!

The window master switch is the drivers side switch that contains the window switches and the door lock switch. It's possible that this door lock switch is going bad or is bad!

Sorry for the confusion!!!

the last time i saw that part starting to fail... the car was equipped with Scion Security...

let's say the security system didn't like that lock jamming up like that and would cause the alarm to go off when unlocking the car

i'm pretty much 95% sure it's the same part that's giving you the same issues. i can look into it a bit further another day... maybe there's another car that shares that same part number.. so the dealership wouldn't have to special order you one elsewhere.

I am currently having that problem on my 2005 with 68k on it. It is the lock actuator that is bad. If it is the same problem I have the lock still gets 12v, but only moves slightly. My assumption is that a gear is stripped. I did not seem to see any corrosion problems at the connector so there is that. I am going to the dealer to have it warrantied. Sorry for the bad news.

Being a fellow Canadian xB owner, I can tell you that the dealer can order all parts for your car, without any extra cost. Only if the part is not shared with another car, it will take a little longer to come from the US.
And yes it does sound like the drivers power door lock actuator is bad.

Up it was the actuator.

$ 168.50 Canadian.

That sucks big time. I guess the springs will be on the waiting list again.

Bummer. One of mine did it sometime last year, but something in the latch had broken. The dealership didn't figure it out until they put 2 actuators in.

Mine is now showing the same symptoms.

Driver's power lock doesn't work, all others work normally. The single acknowledgment flash only works when the door is manually locked before hitting the lock button on the remote. Same thing with unlocking. The double acknowledgment flash only works if the driver's door is unlocked before hitting the unlock button.

Key and manual button work fine.

The service manual says to test by applying 12V to the lock motor. Any hints on getting to it? I've never had the panel off and don't want to break anything.

Check your remote batteries. Mine started acting up and it turned out both remotes need new batteries.

Good advice, but unfortunately the lock doesn't respond to the inside button either.

Any of them? I doubt it's the switches then. Sounds like the main brain.

Nope, it's the left front door lock actuator. That's the only one that doesn't work. I put 12V directly to the motor terminals and got nothing.

+12V and -12V appears at the motor terminals at the end of the harness when I work the buttons, so the electronics are most likely OK.

The manual shows removal of the window glass and regulator before the lock comes out, but it looks like there is plenty of room to do it with the glass rolled up. Now to get the part and a T-30 Torx tool to do the job.
