Default Question, getting away with one license plate only ?

I just recieved my new license plates today. And I have a question. the dealership did not drill holes for the front plate and I hate to drill it unless I have to. Because the XB looks so good without a plate in front. So my Question is the state of Oregon requires a front plate but I see many cars on the road without one. how can I not install it and still be legal?

The cops in Texas made my bro take his plate out from his dash, so he used zip ties to secure it behind his mesh grille. Hasn't had any problems with that so far. So that's another thing to think about if you don't want to drill holes.

IIRC Oregon requires all passenger cars, trucks, SUVs to have both plates under 3/4 ton hauling capcity. I would just keep it in the glove box until you get stopped, then hop out with the zip ties and inform the officer you will setup an appt with the dealership to have the holes drilled. Then go on ebay and order a plate relocator. Make sure the plate relocator package supports stateside plates though.

Default Mine is off

I agree,my fronts off.
no problems yet,its been 6 months.

It was on when i got the car....so i took the bracket off the front AND WHAT DID I SEE ? 4 HOLES !

Look like theres 2 holes for the bracket itself, and 2 more from the license plate that go completely through the front bumper Nice !

Don t drill if you can get away with it.

You must run the front plate here in Iowa and in many other states. Technically, the plate in the windshield just doesn't cut it.

I've got the ticket once, I paid it. I'll get it again someday, I'm sure.

Those of you who want to run the plate and not drill:

you know the beauty in the ticket is in the whole story and that LOUD exhaust of yours

im going to have to move might soon here by law. ive already got questioned about it by a cop. front plate cant be lower than 12 inches... figures after drop and wheels and all that biz, the bottom of it is at 11.5 (he MEASURED it himself with a ruler). damn Nebraska cops and their need to find SOMETHING wrong with my car

CARB II laws demand a front license plate in California.

The real reason for this is for the cameras we see at intersections and soon (they hope) for the freeway on ramp sensors and cameras.

This is to take a picture of your plate and your face so they may positively identify you as the driver to issue a ticket.

Personally, I'm dead set against this big brother approach and I hope it is ultimately abandoned as it has been shown repeatedly that (supposedly) unintentional mis calibration of the equipment results in falsely issued tickets.

Having the manufacturer of these systems maintain them and foreword violations to the State (they get a cut of the violation $) is a collusion and a travesty.

Putting the plate on the windshield is a bit risky. If the vehicle gets into an accident or you have to slam the brakes, the plate will resemble a flying blade of death.

I'm from Oregon also and I've got the "jdm" license plate relocator. I've never installed it. I stuck that thing all over the front of the vehicle with the plate installed and could never find a place that looked good. So there it sits, awaiting my lying excuses to the cops to finally fail.

I've only been pulled over once and told to get it on there. No ticket yet. But it's coming I imagine.

Before you get that license plate relocator, have someone position the plate around the car where you would like to put it and see if there is a spot that pleases the eye.

Yeah no plate so far its been over a year no prob, I do keep it in the car though. The car is so new crazy looking on the streets of St.L that I would just tell them Im waiting for the bracket from Japan if I did have a problem and Im sure I wouldnt have any problem.

CT requires a front plate too, but I made sure the dealer didn't drill holes in my wife's xA OR my xB...I actually waited an extra 2 weeks for the box because they drilled the one I was supposed to get & I refused it.

No front plates in my driveway & so far no problems with the law (knocks feverishly on faux-wood laminate desk).

Lots of folks get by without one, but if you do run without one you are giving the officer an open invitation to pull you over and go over your car for more violations at his leisure.
