Default Question Re: Keyless Entry

Hi all.

Just joined, but I had a question:

I'm getting an xA in August, and I was wondering: Is there any way of getting the keyless entry w/out paying up for the Scion Security package? Would it just be cheaper to go aftermarket?

I'm wanting the keyless entry, but don't really want to pony up $499 for the entire package...

Thanks in advance...

You're better off getting an aftermarket alarm system installed. I got mine installed by a friend for 50 bucks. cybergypsy got her system installed by Circuit City for 150 and it has all these cool features (remote start, windows, etc)...

If all you want is a keyless entry then um.....it does come with that as standard equipment. You get two keyfobs and 3 keys.

Wow... Does it really? lol I didn't know that... I assumed you had to order the security package to get keyless entry....

Hmm... it doesn't list keyless entry as a standard feature on Scion's website.... :?:

helloooo...you're in the xA forum. Keyless entry isn't standard with the xA. Maybe it has to do with the xB not having a keyhole for the trunk?

So xB = Standard keyless entry; xA = no standard keyless entry

??

That's funny. I would think it would be the same for the entire line. What a gyp if not. Either way. Do not go with the scion alarm one. The system blows for how much you pay for it!

i agree with the guys..the scion system is expensive but it also wont void your warranty like some aftermarket gear can. But you can get keyless a hell of a lot cheaper elsewhere..but c'moin for $499 you can also buy those colored key fobs for $19 each too..now thats a selling point..lol

Do you really need the entry / security for keyless entry like shown on the ebay auction from the link above? I know with Honda Civic's that have power locks, all you needed was the remote to have keyless entry. I really want keyless entry but don't want to screw around with the wiring of the vehicle. Unless the keyless entry is plug n play. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks!!

Nope, you have to screw around with the wiring or have somebody else do it. Sure would be nice if they pre-wired everything and you only had to buy the remote fobs!

The ebay fellow sent me a pdf of the official Scion system - you have to go through the firewall and you have to tap into existing wires with the easy-splice connectors. It didn't look too difficult. Basically the same thing as almost all security/remote entry systems.

I was hoping to get a pdf of the instructions for the Accele 805 LCD pager from the Bill Turner, the scionspecialties.com fellow but got instructions that I think he wrote up. It was in wps format, which threw me for a loop for a bit until I figured out that it was a Microsfot Works document and I had to install a converter in my Word program to see it.

Good luck!

Here are those instructions to give you an idea of the installation:

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Installation takes sometime if you are a first timer.
Give a call at the no. below if you run into problems.

Harness 1 goes to the stirring column to access wires at stirring column. Remove the 3 screws on the lower plastic panel. Gently remove lower panel.
Red wire goes to white with Blue or white with red.
Green\white wire goes to green\red on top of brake pedal
White wire to green wire at headlight switch.
Brown with white wire goes to white with red wire.

On the starter kill relay, there are 2 black wires. There is a small gauge black wire about center of the ignition harness. Cut that wire, the car should not start.
Take one black wire and connect to one side of the small gauge black wire. Take the other black wire with red tape on it and connect to the other side of the black small gauge wire.

Harness 2 goes to the driver side kick panel. To remove this panel, firmly grasp driver’s side step panel pull - up. Panel should come up. Grab the kick panel and pull straight back. You will see several wire harnesses.
The green wire goes to red with white wire found in harness running along the bottom of kick panel.
Brown wire goes to red wire from siren, black wire from siren to ground.
Black wire goes directly to ground.

Harness 3 goes to driver side kick panel too. The green wire goes to the blue with white wire located at the 14 pin connector at the driver side kick panel.
Blue wire connects to the blue with red wire in the passenger kick panel. Passenger kick panel remove the same way as the driver’s kick panel is removed.

Harness 4 Starter kill relay, orange wire connects to orange wire of harness 4
The brown wire goes to the black\yellow wire coming from the ignition harness
The thick orange wire goes to blue\red wire coming from ignition harness
The yellow wire goes to small gauge black wire behind the blue\red wire
The violet wire goes to small gauge black wire behind the white\blue wire

You will be required to drill 2 holes. 1 for LED and 1 for the Valet switch.
The colored male plug goes to the same colored female plug at the alarm brain.
There are 2 antenna wires; the one that plugs in should be mounted behind the rear view mirror on the windshield. The second antenna should be mounted on the driver’s side top corner of the windshield. To remove the driver’s side A- pillar panel pulled back and up. Run the antenna wires in the factory wire harness holders. If you have optional two-way pager call me for activating instructions.

The shock sensor can be attached to any wire bundle. The shock sensor is pre-adjusted .

You can now test your alarm. If everything is hooked-up properly, when you arm the alarm, the doors will lock and the siren will chirp once. When you disarm the alarm, the doors will unlock and the siren will chirp twice.

You will have questions, don’t hesitate to give me a call at 702-250-8286 or email me at scionspecialistvegas@yahoo.com or PM me on Scionlife.

if you buy the scion security/KE module on ebay for $140, you can download the pdf instructions on how to install it. it's really easy if you're good at basic stuff. the illustrations and step-by-steps are very good for the most basic of DIY'ers.

by the way, the scion security/KE is not that bad. it includes an engine immobilizer, two-stage unlock (driver's/all), auto-rearm, headlight flash, and a glass breakage sensor. not bad for a $140 unit, plus you get the advantage that it won't possibly void your warranty.

I wouldn't touch an aftermarket system. I can't stand when cars come in with aftermarket alarms in them, most of them are so cheap and crappy. The Scion keyless will essentially "bolt" right in. If any of you guys want since I'm a tech I have access to TIS (Toyota Information System) which basically has every repair manual for every Toyota for the last 10 years on and online database. I can get you the keyless entry instructions and it has pictures and everything.

I can assure you that is no factory system, they are lying. Look it has freakin blade connectors. Toyota doesn't use those, Toyota uses plugs which plug right into existing ones in your car. That kit looks like Autoloc to me.

Is there a way to get the OEM Scion security for less than $500?

I'm not disputing things here, as I still need a remote entry system and am weighing all the facts.

Here's what it says on the pdf from the Deland Toyota's remote entry system on ebay:

Keyless Entry System for 2004 Toyota Scion xA - Dealer Service and Installation Manual Kit No. 00016 - 79200, dtd 2/04, form number 128-7025. Item 1, Keyless Entry Security Module, part number 00016-79200-01. Item 2, 3 Button Keyless Entry Transmitter, part number 00016-34030-05. Item 3, Main Harness, part number 00016-79200-02. Item 4, Misc. Hardware Bag, part number 00016-79200-03.

The ebay ad also says "This is not an after-market kit - we are a Scion dealer". They also a feedback score of 1458 with a 99.7% positive rating. That's not bad at all.

So, it's sold on ebay by a Toyota dealer. "We are a full-service Toyota dealership located in friendly Deland, Florida." They have a full official dealership web site in addition to their ebay store. The remote system manual looks official in the pdf. It's a very well-made pdf also - very nice photos and diagrams. The connectors are female T-Taps. They connect to the green wire in connector 1Q for the parking lights, the white/green wire in connector ID3 for the horn, the red/black wire in connector 1G for the ignition, the blue/yellow wire in connector 1K for the power, a pink wire in connector 1A1 for the door lock and the pink/white wire in 1A1 for the door unlock. The other connections are a small ground lug that goes to a bolt in the kick area and moving a wire or two from connector 1A2 to a provided mating connector for the door circuit.

In the photo they do look like blade conectors, but the instructions say they tap into the wires, not slide onto another blade connector. The instructions also say that with the female T-Tap connectors, all you do is make sure the wire is located inside the center channel of the connector before closing the connector over the wire with pliers.

Also remember that not all dealers install official Scion keyless entry or security systems or have them installed at port. My dealer said that they do only if specifically asked to do so, although he did not mention this too loudly. I would assume that dealers make a little extra with aftermarket parts. I also haven't heard raves about the Scion security system here, and don't recall complaints about after-market units. I am curious how many have after-market remote keyless entry and /or security systems, what they are, and if there have been any problems. I searched for keyless in the forum - perhaps I need to expand it to security as well.
