I wait for the light to come on, and then I know it will hold about 10 gal. So there is about 2 gal left (60 miles). Once I hit 300 miles, I know I got at least 30 mpg, so I accelerate a bit quicker and just have fun driving away from stop lights/signs quickly. Then when the light comes on, I fill up and drive conservatively again until the next time. Most of my driving is in town. Have fun with it.

btw, I routinely get 334, 333, 336, 331 miles per tank full. The worst I have ever done was 305. I always use 87OCT.
I typically drive on the interstate (typically).

Ha! i wouldnt say its much to brag about, i was worried i sucked up trash(even though its new and there shouldnt be any),i was still worried. hmm maybe it does work. I dont know anyone personally that has one, but maybe ill try it. i have just the K&N filter, supposedly its suppose to help, but i dont think it helped at all.

Just 87 octane from 7-11 corner store. Never above 3000 RPM in town, and just baby it. That is why I look forward to getting my 300 miles on the tank, and then I can really have fun driving, until the light comes on

I've heard that every once in a while, maybe once in two months, it is a good thing to get your tank ot the "flashing light/warning light" section of the tank. People have said that (not only for our cars, but for others) this process cleans up any sediment/grundge left behind from numerous fillups. However, it is not good to have your car want to take in gas of whats not there. Try breathing without any air around, you panic.

Why would you be getting that low? When I drive my version of 'Normal' and without a/c on, my tank was blinking every time at 312 for at least three tanks in a row.

OK I know I should know the mileage but I dont but anyways we both get to Norwalk CA which is a city in LA county, from Vegas on a full tank and its supposedly about 320 to 340 miles to there.

With kids and cargo and uphill downhill thats damn good IMO! :D

my sephia gets 22 mpg, horrible for a 1.8 liter, 125 horsepower 4 banger. i only get about 240 miles to a tank. it holds 13.2 gals.

Drafting works. . .heh. On my way up here to Buford, GA from Jacksonville, FL. I drafted my brother all the way with a fully loaded car, i mean, it looked like i had springs. and when he had to fill up, it was at 310+- somthin and the light wasnt even on.

i never got near 300. must be cuse i live in a city now. i useed to get 305 310. im lucky to get 260-270 now

OK, need to point out.

The whole sludge/sediment issue is no longer an issue.
The government has passed laws forcing all gas stations
to have their tanks replaced and up to date and the cutoff
date for that was just in the past year or two. So ALL TANKS
at gas stations should be modern, clean, environmentally
safe tanks and have NO SEDIMENT.

I doubt the gas haulers are carrying around sand and rust in
those big stainless steel tubes, and I doubt our gas tanks
on our moderns cars are rusting.

So there should be NO SEDIMENT anymore!!

That is assuming you are using a modern gas station with
modern gas and not "Grandpa Joe's Gas and Taxidermy Store"

You can damage your pump if it's trying to suck air. As stated
earlier in this thread. And no, we don't have carburetors. LOL

That said, I've accidentally run my gas down to where the
needle was tickling the top of the E. I'm trying an experiment
with this car. My past two cars ran awesomely on Shell for
some reason (According to my highly sensitive butt dyno)
so I'm running my Box on Shell only for the life of the car.

With regular maintenance and quality gas, this box should
last me a LONG time. My last car I got over 330,000 miles
on it before I was hit head on and it was totaled. I was really
hoping for a half million miles, but hey, it getting totaled got
me the box!

So yeah, once or twice I've forgotten to get gas the night
before I leave for work, then I wake up late, dash out the
door and I'm like, "Ahh Hell, Yellow Lights On" and I just
do the 50 mile round trip and fill up when I get home later
that day.

I have a log book where I record every fill up down to the
hundredth of a gallon, including time, cost, and location of the
Shell I was at. I also note every time I check oil level, tire
pressure, and wax the car.

I'm usually not this ****, but I'm just enjoying maintaining
the box. So yeah, I need to remember to fill up more often. LOL

I just drove from Boston to Lafayette, La. And we are only getting around 280 miles before the light goes on. What gives? I hear of some getting 370? What can I do to help this? And also, going through northeastern TN. and VA. we had a hard time just doing the speed limit with the hills and all.

This morning I'm heading out and notice the gas gauge is low. No problem, I'm passing my favorite Chevron in a few more miles anyway. I fillup, 9.7 gallons. Fine, I grab my book and turn on the ignition to check milages. I'm figuring 300 miles roughly. WHAT! What is this.... 450 miles. No way, I ain't getting no 45 mpg or better. I check odo readings also and subtract. Yep, 450 mile. I'm thinking, what the heck....... Oh, crap! I forgot. I had emptied a 5 gallon can into the xb a week or so ago that was set aside for the generator. It was about a month old and I don't like it to sit around. Darn. I really thought I had something there, like, than new K&N Air Filter musta just kicked in....

OK...we just drove from Vegas {we live right near the Strip} to Longo Toyota in El Monte and the light came on just as we were exiting the freeway at Longo. And that was with running the air the whole way! So we did damn good yesterday!!!

Now my hubbies on E again...if he doesn't get gas I'll take a pic.

I've ran out twice and I've coasted into a station or 2 as well. My needle was a little off from a modding mishap and now it's completely inaccurate after I had to make "sure" I only had a 1/4 tank at my last show. ( I really was legal, the gauge just didn't show it...) My commute is about 80 miles round trip, so I can get 3 days in before needing to refill. The price difference can be really huge around here though, sometimes 20-30 cents a gallon from Oakland to Livermore.

BTW, thanks again to Squirrel for saving my butt the last time I did it...
