rattling/vibration noise from dash
when i am driving, i hear a rattling noise from the left side of the dash. does anyone have an idea of what it could be?
there is nothing loose in the cubbie holes or in the door pockets, so i dunno... just thought i'd ask you guys before i visit the dealership.
thanks!

Ok, this just happened to me. I was driving down I-5 and I kept hearing this rattling. I thought it was coming from the speaker cover, then I thought it was coming from somewhere around the front left side. But everytime I went to put pressure on those places it went away. I was getting so frustrated, that I could not find it. Then one day I was driving home late, just having a big dinner. So I was a little swollen, lol. I was on the same strecth of I-5 and that little rattle was still there. But since I was a little swollen, I took my watch off and low and behold the rattling stopped! lol. My watch was rattling just enough to make it sound like it was somewhere in the dash when I was driving. When I took it off it went away. Now no rattle. LOL. Don't know if this could be your problem, but you may want to see what you are wearing around your wrist when you're driving. GL

The speedometer cover will rattle if the road is just right. I thought mine would make noise all the time due to reports i've read. I expected it to rattle, but find it only does it rarely, depending on road conditions. Some people report that the fit and finish is bad due to these kind of issues. I disagree. My car is quieter than expected, and tighter then hoped for. I can live with an occasional speedo rattle....(easily fixable if wanted....there is a thread somewhere...)

.....RATTLE STOP....
There are many 'dash rattle' threads. None talk about speedometer cover rattle and none about whist watch rattles.
The speaker cover may rattle, if so, use double sidded tape to solve this problem.
Seek and ye shall find, 'SEARCH' and destroy all rattles.

I had a problem once like that before on another car... It turned out to be that it was something in the engine bay. I doubt it would have been something in your xB's engine bay since it's new but that's what happened to me once. Crawl underneath the dash and check it out.

i'm hoping it's simply the speaker cover or the air intake screen as mentioned in the above thread (thanks for posting the link for me, it would have took me a while to find it).
you guys are AWESOME!! i appreciate all of the quick responses. i'll check it out and let you all know what i find :-)

i had a rattle on driver side that i heard the day after i got my car . took it to the dealership and it took them 6 hours to find it . i felt bad for the tech he kept taking it for a drive and comming back and working on it a while and take it for another drive come back and scratch his head. they finally found it .it took 2 techs to find it .one had to flip upside down in the drivers seat(listen for the rattle and work the gas and brake ) and the other tech to work the wheel. it ended up being a loose braket that holds the dash on ... glad it got fixed cuz it was driving me nuts.
