Default Rostra Cruise Control with the RF switch

Has anyone installed the Rostra Cruise Control with the optional RF switch that you can mount to the wheel? If so, do you like that better than the stalk?

I ordered one, but it is sitting right next to me waiting for my RS 3.0 to show up. Will install it as soon as I get the Green Box in the garage.

Didn't know about that. Must be new. Mine was port installed with the stalk. After readjusting the stalk to the proper position, I like the stalk and don't have anyproblems using it even in the dark. The buttons are easy to memorize. I love having cruise and still don't understand why it wasn't been made standard equipment.

I think I want that on my wife's RS 3.0. I found a reference here:

Where do you mount the Buttons?

Baine,

Thats the one. I had a message on my machine today from a guy at Rostra stating that the rf switch set-up was not available/compatible for an xb installation. I will return his call tomorrow & find out what he is talking about.

I called the guy back today. He is a distributer for Rostra & said there are problems with the wireless set-up. Primarily, as I understood him, the switch won't stay attached to the steering wheel. I don't know if its a problem with the attachment method (double back tape?) or the switch being flat & the wheel is curved?? Or perhaps it was all BS so that he could sell me the standard set-up which he stocks.
This is why I raised the initial question so that if there really are problems it can be brought to light. Seems like a great idea but is it really functional?

Glad it is working great. Not too sure of the look though. It seems awkward or lopsided. My stalk is accessable but kinda out of the way.
How much did it run if I may ask? Thanks and no offense meant. JMO

I paid $210 plus shipping for the cruise w/RF switch. I am still waiting for my RS30 to show before I can install it. Planned on installing it exactly as dugzillaxb has his installed. Looks good. Great pictures.

I too have a auto dimming mirror to install. Has anyone come up with an adapter to install a window mount mirror in the original xB location? I will mount on the windshield if I have to but would prefer the stock location if possible.

it looks lopsided because the steering wheel is turned, it looks fine when it is straight. very easy to use.

I can see the wheel is obviously turned. Maybe some normal pics from straight on would give a better true view of how it looks. It looks like it's attached to the plastic trim behind the airbag.
One tip for better mounting would be to pull the airbag and mount it to that trim with screws from the inside instead of that 2 sided tape stuff. Then it wouldn't matter how hard you push on the buttons.

it actually has a clip that slides onto the steering column cover i put the double sided tape on to see if it made any diff, it didn't and I haven't taken it off yet. I am 6'2" and didn't want another stalk on my column so I got the rf switch. Also you don't have to run the control wires down the column.

with shipping I paid 220

Cool deal. Were you able to slide the clips in behind the airbag without removing it? Gald it's working for you. If I didn't already have the stalk I'd go this route too. I'm 6'3" and had to adjust the stalk so my knee wouldn't hit it.

yeah, i didn't have to remove the airbag. The clip goes in first and the switch slides onto the clip. I haven't gotten into it yet, but I would like to find a way to make the switch not move at all.

I have a customer that called Rostra about this recently. Apparently, they stopped shipping these out because the switches can become projectiles when the airbag explodes. That might be something just for the 2006.5 xBs. I don't know. Just thought I'd pass along the info.

I don't see how it could be a projectile, it sits below where the airbag would deploy. I hjope it doesn't!!

I too, also wondered about that aspect. But because it wasn't mounted to or in front of the bag thought bag deployment wouldn't cause any problems. Guess I thought wrong
