Default RS1 Trade In Buyback???

Hey guys and gals :D

Just curious to know if nay of you RS1 owners or friends fo a RS1 owner has some knowledge as to what I can expect to get in buyback for my Lava??? After two solid years of driving, it's time to let someone else have some fun in it, and I've decided to trade it in...

I've been in contact with a number of dealerships around the area where I live, but no one has been able to give me a solid answer...I do however seem to be getting the same excuses from each one..."Because it's not listed in Kelley Blue Book, the RS1's (as with all of the RS Scions have a buyback value all their own: higher than regular versions. We'll have to call Toyota directly to get you the correct buyback on your vehicle."...And in a week's time, not one has been able to call me back...What gives??? Am I being messed with here???

Any info would be awesome!!! :D

Sell it yourself. You'll never get as much money from a dealer as a trade or "buyback".

the best bet is to sell it yourself. when i was selling my hot lava i looked to trade it in first. most dealers said that they would only give what a normal xB is worth and that led me to sell it private party which is the best bet. you will lose a lot on trade in

Agreed, you'll get far more from a PP than trade in from a dealer, just more hassle.

I couldnt stress this more. Sell it privately. The dealer will only give you wholesale. Clean it up, inside and out, and advertise the thing. But, if you don't care about losing thousands... trade it in... but don't say we didnt tell you so. LOL

Thanks for the feedback guys :D

The only setback with selling it out to a private party is that once I get rid of it, I have no way to get back and forth to work until I get a new car...So I'd petty much have to get a new car the same day I sell this thing and pay off Toyota all at the same time...I'm just new to selling to private parties is all so I don't know the ins and outs of it...

What do you guys thing a fair asking for an otherwise stock box private party is??? My Lava is in as mint condition as a car can get as old as it is...All service regularly done, washed weekly, waxed as often as time permits, and clean as all hell in and out...

Default Buy Back Value

It would be safe to assume that the value would be Blue Book + $500.00 to $800.00 tops .....

Yeah, just look at the bluebook value of a regular xB and throw in another $500 or so for the RS package.

And I feel you on the trade in thing. I've sold cars before via private party and it can be a big hassle. People just looking, people "test drive" your car with no intention to buy... It can take weeks or months to find a buyer. In some cases it's worth it to lose a couple grand just to get the car out of your hair.

Good luck. Any plans on the next car?

One problem is that Kelly Blue Book has the RS1.0 listed as a 2005 model. That just throws everything off and you can't calculate value correctly. With that said, 99% of used car managers will NOT give you a price for your trade sight unseen. There's just far too many people who will tell you that the car is showroom beautiful and it comes in missing a grille or something like that. This happens CONSTANTLY.

I suggest that you take your car in to trade, let them give you a number, see if you like the deal/can afford the payment or whatever and then if you hate the deal you can always walk.

You know Oliver down in Glendora will be cool with you bro! Go give him a shot!

Outside a certain subset of scion enthusiasts, nobody really cares about release series or any of that. Expect 500 or so extra if you manage to sell it to a scion enthusiast, nothing if they don't care.

ive been in this situation, goto your bank, get preapproved for your loan.......that way you are ready to go when you sell your car. you will get raped bad by the dealer, if you trade it in, they will give all sorts of exucses why they are low balling you. my friend traded in a car, they gave him "wholesale" about a week later he was driving by, and the car was being listed for 6,000 more then what they paid him..........

the bonus of trading it in is having the dealership do all the dirty work for you. the real big bonus is the tax break on the new car. i paid about $90 on tax on my xb which came out to be $15,000 and some small change after a few options.

what aspect of the deal did not workout? I am curious, to make a long story short, i tried to trade my denali in (before i sold it private party) on acura RL, they were going to give the RL at a certain price with a real low intrest rate, but then when i told them i had a trade they said "either we give you blue book for the trade, or 5% intrest" so in therory i was going to either loose alot of money on the trade, or get what i want for the trade, and the dealer would get a higher intrest rate.....

so im curious to see if it was an issue with what you were asking for the trade, or if they were going to comensate thier losses with adding points to your intrest. Dealers seem to think on trades they need to mark it up atleast 4-5000.00. also they dont like "you" to use Kelly blue book, its very onesided. They say if your useing KBB its only a estimated opinion, but if they use it its gospel.........

It all went sour right away...When we sat down to crunch numbers, they could only offer me 12,000 for it...Um, thanks, but no thanks...An RS1 is worth a bit more than that...I argued the fact that KBB not recognizing Scion as having limited edition vehicles gave them an unfair advantage in their quote, and they stuck to their guns and said they had to base my trade off of the 2004 base model xB...I was also told I couldn't get an accurate quote because I refused to let them run my credit...Seriously man, if they wanted to, they could plug the numbers based off of my word alone on what my FICO is and give me a freaking accurate estimate on what I might expect to get in trade and monthly payments...

Honestly, it was one of those dealership experiences to where I knew more about the cars they were selling than they did, and yet they still tried to sell me on them...I'm just thankful I never gave them the opportunity to run my credit at all and they got none of my personal information...
