Ok.....

Let me clear some things up about the Beetle that MOST of you say have problems..

First off my mom owns a 2001 Limited Edition Vortex Blue Beetle. (Kind of like the Smurf Color). Anyways it has around 65,000 miles on it. NEVER have had a problem with it. And we have all sorts of MODS to it. So you people think that Beetles are harder to take care of is WRONG. Yea they are WAY faster than the xB. But you got to realize there are different styles of the New Beetle. Theres a 2.0(Some people in our Beetle Club in Dallas, Texas call them 2. Slows) Theres a Turbo.(Which is what my moms is at 150 Horses)Theres a Turbo S.(Which my moms BoyFriend has and its STOCK at 180) Theres a TDI(Turbo Diesal Engine-SLOW) Theres also a New Beetle Sport(Its HorePower is right between the Turbo and Turbo S). Theres a couple more that I am missing. So you have MANY choices from the Beetle. UNLIKE the Scion xB.

I am 16 I really wanted my moms Vortex Blue Beetle BUT the thing is is Insurance. So we are TRYING to sell my moms Beetle. So we as a family are trying to get a Scion xB. If ANYBODY is intresested in a 2001 Beetle PLEASE feel free to PM me and ask me to see some pics of it. Its a pretty sharp little car.

Hope that cleared some things up. Have anymore questions about the Beetle ask!

Also if you want something fast to start off with go with one of the Turbo Beetles. Turbo S or just plain Turbo.

But if you want to just cruise around with friends and watch from behind the race then go with the Scion xB. NO OFFENCE!

The Beetle's are not faster. Not the 2.0's, they have an almost identicle 0-60 time as the Xb's and their gas mileage is MUCH worse. The turbos are pretty fast and a fun ride, but about $3000 more. But here is my suggestion/comment. They are revising the beetle for 2006 I believe. They are going to drop the new 2.5 engine in it (the one that is in the brand new Jetta). They also be doing some minor exterior and interior revisions. So, wait for the new, New Beetle to come out. If you go to newbeetle.org they have several threads about it and they have some pics of the 2006 Beetle.

P.S. VW will discontinue the Beetle in a few years. VW said, when they released the new Beetle in 1998, that it would only run for 10-12 years. So it could end up being a collector's item.

Dude, you're 16. How old were you your Mom bought that Beetle? 11? You probably weren't aware of all the repairs that it needed.

Beetles are more matinence... much more maintenece. Especially the Turbos because they need new timing belts at 65K miles, they need premium gas, and they have MAJOR problems with the coil packs. In fact they have SO many problems with the coil packs that VW issued a recall for ALL 1.8 turbo engines from 2001-2003.

My girl has a 2001 VW Beetle, Isotope 1.8T. So, I'm familliar with the problems. Major electrical gremlins, which are a pain to fix.

Like I said before, wait for the revised 2006 Beetle. Then make a decision!

My fried OWNED a new VW beetle. I was actually considering it for the 1.8T engine when I was looking into the Scion XB too. When I told her I was considering getting one, she asked, "WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THAT?". She then went on to describe the electrical and mechanical nightmares of her particular Beetle. I researched her issues further and found them to be more common place (on VWVortex.com). It convinced me to rule the Beetle out.

Too bad. My VW Scirocco was great!

I have both a Mini Cooper and a Scion xB. I checked out the Beetle... it has no charm, no personality. If you are looking for a great touring vehicle or one that will hug the curves and have plenty of power (with the base engine) go for a Cooper. Otherwise, the xB. But steer clear of the Beetle, IMO.

apparently, you have never driven any of these
they all FEEL slow
even the Turbo S does not even feel close to 180hp
the reason being---The Beetle is HEAVY
and the TDI is pretty quick, it produces more torque than the VR6 engine
torque is what actually matters, HorsePower is a calculation from torque-a measured value
torque x RPM / 5252 = HP

they were correct about the maintenence
the 40,000maint costs about $500 depending on labor rate
you gotta do it again at 80k
they are reliable, just a little costly when it comes to up-keep......

Ask yourself one question: Which one will you regret not buying the most ? I've been a VW bug lover all my life. The night before I purchased my XB, I went to the VW dealership, it was so easy to walk away. I remember all the maintenance it involved, and I knew I would regret not buying the XB.

just get an old aircooled bug to satisfy the bug fix , cheaper and more fun than a new beetle anyways. buy an ol aircooled and a nice xB and you'll be set!

i've had a new beetle before....the over experience of it is AWEFUL....
the new bug burns motor oil....when i ask the vw, they told me that the engine is normal burns 1 qt every 1000 miles....that they consider "normal"..... the quality is bad because the glove box, the handbrake handle, as well as the window button all broke within 3 yrs..... i've had other cars for 3 yrs..... and none of them gave me the same problem as much as the new beetle did....so...if u ask me.....i'll definitly choose the box over the new beetle any given day~

Scion Xb truly is a car built for the people....its the new VW (or at least what VW used to represent).
