The secret of going fast

The secret of going fast
Some people here complain the xB needs more power. Sure, more is always better, but it is what it is. You can spend a lot of money chasing after power, but the guys with bigger motors will always be one step ahead.
That reminds me of an article I read many years ago about 250cc GP motorcycle racing. Compared to the big boys, the 250s are mighty underpowered, but they can still be quick and fun. The article said the secret of going fast is to not slow down. That means looking ahead and planning your line so you avoid using the brakes as much as possible. Don't lose momentum. Finess it. Be quick instead of fast.
The same applies to low power cars. There's a lot of fun to be had with only 108 hp if you don't slow down.

Heh, that is quite true. The box is so much fun to drive non-stop at 80 mph on highways. Speaking of which, my friend and I had a lil fun game of playful cat and mouse with my box and his 91 prelude si with a b20a swap and AEM CAI on the palisades parkway not long ago. Sure enough, the box felt really fast.

But it's fun on surface streets, too, particularly when someone with more horsepower than brains blasts away from the light only to end up stopped at the next red one. You time it right so you roll by just as the light turns green. He blasts by again but gets stuck behind someone slowing for a turn. You roll by, switch lanes, and now you're in front as he blasts up behind you. You see another slowdown ahead and switch lanes too late for the mullethead in the Mustang to react. He gets boxed in again, you make the next light but he doesn't. He roars by four blocks later but still doesn't get it. You roll past him at the light again.
