Default Shortening automatic shifter

Has anyone heard about or seen any automatic shift lever poles that are cut down? I am not sure why this couldn't be done, just haven't had time to dissasemble mine. People keep commenting on how my automatic looks like it belongs in a truck being so tall. I would like to put a classier shift **** and lower it down toward the console.

I dunno. . . but they make push button auto tranny selectors for domestic cars, and there might be something available for imports as well. They look super clean, and free up some room. . . the negative side is that if you lose power, you won't be able to shift into neutral/3/2/L, although I'm not even sure that our modern cars with ECT will do it either without power. I'm not sure. But in anycase, it would be cool.

Seen it done before. Search VWvortex, someone posted way back a AWSOME faq complete with step by step images. Looked fairly straight forward. It would take about 2-3 hours. You also have to let some silicon sit for a while (over night).
