Default To steelie or NOT steelie

I have been riding around on my steelies for week or so since I got the box. It's polar with limo tint, and steelies make for all black wheelwells and black cabin against white (super graphic B&W). My friends are like "didn't it come with hubcaps?" My response- "F*ck hubcaps" You see Hondas all the time with steelies, I don't think anyone thinks they lost their hubcaps.

Anyone else out there doing steelies permenant?(not while you want for your rims)

I used too. My steelies now are not glossy as before. I sprayed some wheel/tire cleaner (Eagle 1, in an orange bottle). The wheels now look dull and has some filmy residue on it. If you want to rock it go ahead. There's no point for me to buy rims since winter is approaching.

I don't use the spray on wheel cleaner. I just use normal car wash soap, and a little elbow grease.

It's good to know not to use it. It must screw up the powder coat.

the filmy residue just sounds like brake dust(?). You could try cleaning them and adding 2 coats of wax to the steel. That should get some shine back.

I rock the steelies.

I don't have the money for rims if I wanted them.

I'm just running the steel on mine. That "filmy residue" looks to be an actual plastic film. There is a spot peeling on one of mine which is why I think it's coated. For what reason it's there I don't know, maybe for corrosion protection.

Anyway, I had the hubcaps on for about 2 1/2 months, when the tires were rotated with the 2nd oil change , the caps started to make niose going down the road. No problem, remove caps = remove noise. I noticed that the rims were dull where the sun was shining through the caps and faded that plastic coating. That was about 3 weeks ago, and the sun is doing it's job and has faded the rest of the rim.

The steelies look kinda cool on there, just need to get a good paint on (and strip the plastic). The only problem is that now I could get arrested for indecent exposure, driving around with my nuts showing .

take some black turle wax (made for black cars) and wax the steelies! Mine were fading where the hubcaps didnt cover!! fixed that problem!

Ohh BTW- I think hubs make the car look alot better than plain steelies!

I might be buying rims soon, but it looks good if you floss the steelies with chrome lug nuts, center caps, and beauty rings.

if you got no cash for rims, at least get the steel rims as polished and shiny as you can get them.

then go to pepboys and buy the plastic "chrome" rings that snap on the steel rims (i think they are between $3-6 a ring). that way you can have the black rim with chrome lip look as opposed to the "someone stole my hubcaps" look.

$0.02

[quick edit]Not putting the steelies down, just talking about my area and why I wouldn't/didn't. [/edit]

Only people around here running steelies are the "I took the hubs off my Civic HX for weight reduction, makes me faster, yo" guys.

I sprung $500 on a set of used 16's and some tires. Got them from a friend who let me make two payments, had them in the back of the truck I traded in.

Are they anything fancy? Naw, set of Enkei EP01's (I think). But they are light and fit perfect.

I use to rock steelies on my polar white xA before my rims were put on. I see nothing wrong with doing it and looks good in my opinion.

Poor man's black wheels.

A lot of Honda owners do this because they don't have money for wheels. Looks like $hit IMO!

I had to rock the steelies for the 300 miles I got on my before I wrecked her. I got nothing but grief from bystanders. I'm a grown man, but their jeers hurt

Take a look at the wheels on my rig. Rims and Toyo tires installed and everything for well under $800. Oh yeah, I thought the Toyo's were junk because of cost....they grip better and are quieter than the stock tires. Go figure.

They held well on ten hard core GT Laps too!

Narrow minded ****. That's like saying that all the people riding in hotrods wearing primer ain't got money to paint it.

It's personal style. I say, it's all good!

Anyone who tells you they would rather roll on steelies than Slipstreams, C8's, or some type of black racing wheel is full of $hit! Believe me, it's lack of funds. Nobody with any sense / taste rides primer for style

Well then, anyone would would roll on Slipsteams doesn't have enough money for Spoons. Anyone who rolls on C8s doesn't have enough money for Mugens.
At least steelies aren't knockoffs! And ever hear of the concept of a sleeper.
