Default Stupid Question about Coolant changing and Radiator

Guys,

1. ok just to let you know this is a rookie question but i wanted to make sure. where the hell is the drain plug for the radiator on a xB? is it the circlular white looking plug on the passenger side of the radiator? its white and about the size of a quarter...

i am so used to working on other cars i dont see anything similar to the standard flat screw plug. let me know whats up.

2. also i wanted to change my radiator fluid because i noticed some bubbling from the top of the resevoir, is this bubbling bad? i didnt visually see the bubbling but i can tell it did, because some of the coolant has hardened and formed a crust at one of the seams of the resevoir as well as the main coolant hose that leads to the engine is frosted white a bit (sign of very hot coolant). let me know what i should do about the bubbling and if you think its time for a coolant change. OEM recommends every 100k do a change i am only at 40k but this might be a good time or do you think i am ok?

thanks in advance.

Are you due for an oil change? Take it to the dealer for the oil change (not cheap I know), and ask them to check out your coolant...tell them what you told us..see what they say.

bump.

also, no coolant or temp light never came on, car runs great but i just noticed this the other day... was wondering if it was a freak thing or something i should look into... thats all... i think its from driving at excessive speeds when going to Vegas a few weeks ago when i was going at high speeds for hours at a time... not sure though... have not noticed the "boilover" crust after i removed the old one.

Overheating probably did not happen - probably cannot happen. Bubbling and crusting coolant could be indicative of a serious problem, perhaps a head gasket leak. Do not change the coolant until the dealer has had a chance to look at the problem. And if/when you do, use the special kind specified in the manual or you will have to do it every two years.
