Default theft rates

I've only seen one topic that deals with an Xb being stolen (though a ton of them have stories of being broken into). Are there any actual numbers out there on how often the box is a target or how many have been stolen per how many are on the road?

I know it's early in the model run, but with all the mods and upgrades out there, it seems like it would be a target (especially given the sparce offering of anti-theft features offered from the dealer).

If anyone has any overseas numbers or American data, that might be helpful (thieves are thieves, @ssholes are @ssholes no matter what side of the pond you're on!).

it not going to take long for the theft rates to go up for these...i wouldn't be suprised if after one year there at the same level if not higher than say a civic or a camary...as for the theft prevtion from factory it not all that it cracked up to be...your best options will be a fuel cutoff switch, stater kill switch and a alarm

Civic (all years): stolen because of the whole import scene, example Fast and Furious
Camry: Affects ONLY Generation 2 Camry's. THese are the old style

Yeah, that's why we have insurance. Any car can be stolen. Hire a towing company and ask them to steal your next door neighbors Ferrari. Easily done.

Most cars are stolen to be parted out. The cars whose parts are worth the most cash are the first ones on the list.

I think we have a while before our cars are commonly stolen. Though some will be stolen just to get stereo gear out of or by people who are just ____heads.

That's funny that Saturn is on the top of the list. They must be breaking down so much that parts are in high demand. It is a GM after all...

Thanks for the input everyone. I agree, insurance is there for a reason and you can't live in fear. I was just curious. I'll definately put a really nice aftermarket in my box when I get it (which might be sooner than later since the differential and transfer case just took a dive on my Tracker).

on all of these thefts that I hear about, every theif breaks the windows to get into our boxes. Is the xB really that hard to get into? If so , dam I love my box! Still if anyone needs alams go to the link on my sig for the best protection designed for our box. :D

Well I have a feeling xB's are going to be at the top of list, the way it works is the following:

Car A: there is 100 (xB) registered exsistant cars.... 25 are stolen well there is a 25% theft rate on car A

Car B: there is 10,000 (Honda civic) registered exsistant cars. there are 25 stolen.... the car now has a 0.25% theft rate.

That is the worest part about owning an xB is the rarity, the insurance Institute rates them at a higher theft rate and we pay more in the end, but I guess its the price one pays to be different......

I hope this clears up things for some folks.
