Default Toyota Japan xB Hard Package Tray

Does anybody have one of these?

http://www.newscionparts.com/product/?id=1157

The design is good both to hold small packages and to conceal what's underneath it, but I'm not paying that much for what amounts to a couple of aluminum rods and a carpeted piece of fiberboard. Is there a guide somewhere to making one, or is there a domestic Toyota part that costs less and can substitute?

*Yes, I just found the old thread, but it's... old*

Thanks

I've been meaning to make my own. I'm thinking two long elastic cords, with metal or plastic hooks on the end of each. Then some type of fabric for the cover itself. Sewing machine would be a plus, but a thread and needle would probably work.

I had one of the bB shelves for the rear, and it worked great until i put some weight on it while traveling. The ends are thin plastic and dont take well to hold anything over a pound or 2.

One of the members on here (Max I think) made one. It looked good too. I had asked a few years back on this shelf but no one really gave any useful info. I'm probably gonna spend the $125 and purchase it.

I was looking at one of those myself. Looks like kind of a cool, useable item to have.

Soft cover does the job but I wouldn't buy it. I got one because the dealer gave me a voucher for their parts department. Go to Target and buy a $5 black bed sheet to cover any cargo instead of the Scion soft cover.

The hard cover looks much better. But, I think it has metal poles that go across to support the cover. So it seems like more of a pain to remove it to put in your groceries and stuff.

There are at least a couple good examples of homemade ones in the "ice & interior" forum that utilize the same crossbar type installation.

Yes, I was looking at the JDM version because it was hard. I read a long time ago that the soft one was just utter crap.

Yeah, I have one. Got it from newscionparts. Actually I have had both the factory soft and the JDM hard. The soft on was complete trash. Don't waste your time. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get the thing tight, and it always sagged in the middle.

I like the hard one though. It was a little pricey. It will take some weight on top of it and it looks real good and give the interior a finished look. The metal rods are good quality and are real easy to put in and take out. When you have to fold the rear seats for hauling, you just remove the hard cover and the spring rods and put them in front of the folded rear seat. Clean and easy.

BUT........ Remember, you put either one of the covers in place, you effectively remove your 2 rear factory speakers. You can hardly hear them. That's why I put 2 little cheap speakers in the rear door.

Hmm. Should I be using the white PVC pipe, the black ABS pipe, or the grey (?) pipe?

You can't return it because it is special order from Japan. You could probably post it up in the classifieds and get most of your money back.

I can hardly hear them even if I fade all the sound to the back anyway. They're nearly pointless, but I can still hear the most subtle difference between the sound faded all the way to the front and balanced front-to-rear. They're very effective at rear fill. The SSP probably makes it that way.
