Default Upgrading rims....What's the best tire size???

Hi all

I just bought a 2005 phantom grey XA. I'm really enjoying the car so far. I'm planning on upgrading the stock 15 inch rims to 17" I wanted to know what is the widest tire I can go with. I wanted to go with a 225, but have been told that's too wide and may rub.
Seems like 215/40-17 is what most agree to be about the widest for that rim size. I don't plan on lowering it, so I'm wondering if that 40 profile is going to be too low (too much space in wheel well) and just go with a 215/45-17. Also, I'm mixed about which performance tires to use. I've pretty much narrowed it down to pirelli, toyo, and yokohamas. I really like the Toyo Proxes 4. Anyway....any suggestions would be much appreiciated. If any of you have those size tires on your XA, I would love to see a pix to get an idea of what they will look like. Thanks....

Chech out that topic for info on tire sizes, reported by SL members. That may be a good first step.

I really like Proxes 4 series tires. 215/40 is a good size for 17".
