Default Vinyl on windshield - Question for those with it

I have the top porton of my windshield tinted, but it's not enough to keep the sun out of my eyes. I drive into the sun in the morning and into the sun on the way home in the afternoon.

I was thinking about putting silver vinyl across the top of the windshield (not sure what exactly this is called). How well does this hold up over time? The wipers obvious run across it, but does that cause problems?

Thanks.

I have a Black one on my Xb and have had it for about 6 months now. I have had no problems and mine has the BB emblem cut out in the middle. You will love the results. I dont even use my visors anymore.

hope this helps

i had vinyl across the top of my windshied on my focus when i had it...wipers didnt affect it all, the only thing that i saw was chip marks from stones and crap like that gettin kicked up and hitting the vinyl.

Cool, thanks for the info. How about visibility? You notice any major drawbacks with having the solid vinyl there? I'm tall, so I can imagine maybe having to duck down to see traffic lights when I'm stopped or something. But mostly my wife drives it, so that's not even a big deal. Just the sun is such a killer!

We did some vinyl (Scion name and logo) along the top 4 inches or so of our trac vehicle. It wasn't even the best quality and has held up really well. Weather, wipers, whatever, it has stuck really well. I wouldn't expect any problems with yours.

Yeah, I have vinyel on mine too and the whipers slide over it smoothly, not hurting it at all. As for visibility, even with it I still have more windshield than any other car I've drivin, so I don't really mind/care, lol.

I'd like to have something to block the sun there, but the vinyl banners are just WAY to ricey for my taste so I opted not to do it.

Just wondering. Why would you want it to say "inept" on your car. Is there someone actually retarded enough to name their company that?

in·ept Pronunciation Key (n-pt)
adj.

1. Not apt or fitting; inappropriate.
2.
1. Displaying a lack of judgment, sense, or reason; foolish: an inept remark.
2. Bungling or clumsy; incompetent: inept handling of the account.

Could you put the strip on the inside like they do with tint? I have a tint strip on my car and I took my sun visors off. I'm planning on putting cold cathodes in their place hooked up to a switch (not my dome, I don't want them coming on whenever my domelight does).

I dont like them cuz you cant watch the airplanes while you drive. You should just get dark tint.

Have you considered just tinting the whole windshield?

I had a banner. It held up for about 3 months. It was short lived because we had an ice storm and the man my mother married though he was going to be helpful and scrape my windshield a little. It wasn't even enough to be helpful but it was enough to damage the banner and within a couple of weeks it peeled up where he went across it.

As far as visibility, I didn't like it. I'm only 5'10" and I always had to duck down to see traffic lights. It was great when the sun was low but other than that it was a pain to me.

Inept is a clothing company here... I'm going to replace it with our new club's name once it gets finished.

Mine is now 5 inches down on the windshield. I am 6' 2" and i can see just fine. With a lighter color such as silver you will be able to see the lights through it at night.

Will post a pic of mine tommorow.

I have dark tint now across the top of the windshield. But in my case...driving due east in the morning and west in the afternoon, I need to totally block the sun. Really is a pain in the ___ to deal with sometimes.
