I also own an S40 volvo....similar specs...it will kill your xb...not by a WHOLE lot...but you aint go no chance. :twisted:

I've got an 03 V40, and even with the additional weight over the S40, I'd be happy to cream you. Of course I'd have to get back to NY from CO first. My wife drives the wagon now, but I pop into it every now and then just to remember what it feels like when that turbo kicks in.

I'll give you the first 10 feet, but by 2500 rpms I'm off. If I ever get off my lazy ___ and tweak the waste gate and chip it, it will be truly impressive. I correspond with a guy over in Europe whose been running his 02 S40 near 270hp, there are some great stories of him dusting Z4s.

Of course, the minute you thrown in a turn my crappy Mitsu-based chasis and typical numb Volvo steering will be my undoing. But don't underestimate the Swedes, they've been making some outstanding engines for a very long time.

 

Never said anything about those turbo'ed Volvo's, they rip. We're talking about a naturally aspirated volvo with 168hp, an auto, and an extra 1200-1300lbs over the xB.

What's the 0-60 on the N/A volvo in question?

Found 0-60 for the V70 5speed Turbo 197hp version @ 8.75s

Lol, I must say, I like the specs on the V70 R, though 0-60 in 6.06

Hey jerk daniels. why would i drive to wherever you are, when I AM THE ONE who owns BOTH an xb AND a volvo s40.

The s40 is a 1.9 turbo, and will kill all Scions, I KNOW this.

 

jdaniels: The S40 is turboed. The 03 and 04 are 1.9s with a Mitsu turbo on them (in Europe they're classified as 2.0, but US measurements are slightly differnent) that put out 170hp.

I agree though, a normally aspirated V70 won't be doing much. I don't know why people would get the non-turbo version of that or the S60.

 

What the hell do you keep talking about turbos for? No one asked about the turbo'ed version.

You asked about it when you challenged arinvolvo to a race in his S40 -- they only come with turbos. I realize the difference, I'm not sure you do.

That's similar HP specs to the NA V70. The NA V70 makes 168hp from is naturally aspirated 5 cyl. The S40 makes 168hp from its turbo 4cyl.

My Mom's 940 makes 168 from its turbo 4 cyl.........and the S40 is still faster.

Arin and I know Volvos......and Scions. The Volvos win guys.......sorry.

Now that I took my gigantic 3/4" MDF subwoofer box out of my NA 2.3L 240 Volvo.......I'd put a wager that it would give a stock Scion a run for its money, if not win. I've got some mods on it though (performance cam and adjustable gear, k&n cone.......nothing major).

Adam, your 240 will kill an xb...you killed me in it when you still had all of the crap in the back...

AND on top of that, now that the stockers are back on it, it is also lighter, and may have a smaller wheel diameter...which equals better acceleration.

and the 240 engine produces 112 hp stock?? IIRC
