Dont chu just love internet tough guys. LOL " Ild wipe my butt with the ticket ... " yeah right. I can see his butt being in play again a month down the road with a cell mate named Bubba.

I cant answer for VA, but in NJ last i checked the box was listed as a utility vehicle not a SUV just a utility vehicle.

What i can tell you .. any car that comes to the states needs to pass a universal DOT laws and inspections. Window tint would be one of the things that they would need to make compliant for all 50 states. Think of it as the same issue for the new xB2 with a single reverse/back up light on the drivers side. Scion couldnt make them if it werent legal.

I noticed a couple WI guys saying theirs is labeled as a truck/SUV. On my title they have it down as a wagon. Weird. I wonder if it has anything to do with the year?

Hmm so is it the insurance costs that fluctuates also depending upon the classification?

texas calls it a microvan. we could paint our rear windows black and it be ok. as long as the front two are 35% or less. if you cant load hay in the back or put your toolbox in the bed its not a truck in texas. our liscence plates will say truck if its considered a truck.

In Oregon, ours are titled as 5 door wagons. I think that is pretty accurate.

Guess the TN law has been changed to read: ANY tint darker than 35% is illegal. Does Toyota now have to change all our glass over to completely clear? That would be sweet and allow me to do my fade to chrome tint I really wanted all the way around.

I would think that this wouldnt be possible with out a huge fight. Drive to any local dealership and take notice if their cars/trucks have factory tint in their vehicles. Look towards your Durangos ... Escalades etc. I would think they all have tint on the back windows. I dont see the factories making special cars for certain states.

IMO this just reeks of being singled out. Kinda like the busts they do in Cali while people are just hanging out in parking lots sipping coffee and BS'ing.

The BMV in Kokomo, IN put mine xb down as a SUV. So maybe the BMV's just don't have a clue what we drive!

New York considers the xB to be a suburban:
http://tinyurl.com/6c367u (link to NY DMV FAQ)

This is distinct from a cargo van or truck classification, oddly enough, but is a catch-all for SUVs, passenger-vans, and wagons.

Mind you, this classification existed long before GM trademarked the name (which, I believe, wasn't until the mid 90s). However, my insurance policy doesn't specify what kind of vehicle they think it is.

Not sure about trademarks---but the Chevy Suburban has been around at least since the mid 40's..............
