Default What was your biggest waste mod?

We would all like to know what was your biggest waste of money or time in modding
your xB? I know it's embarrassing admitting you spent good money on something
that looked good, but you will be helping us all out in letting us know. I only have about 500 miles on my box, and all I've done is put a Boomerang armrest in and a wide-angle rear view mirror in. The Boomerang is a good product, but I'm 6'2" and my elbows are too high or the Boomerang is too low for it to be useful as an armrest. The wide angle mirror (for $7.99 from Walmart) was a pleasant surprize. It clips onto your mirror and gives a view from the front of the rear side windows across the back. You can even see yourself grinning alot!

My rims. I found a set a couple months later for several hundred cheaper, and they looked better w/ a polished lip

My advise to anyone buying rims on a strict budget...go to ebay and type in "ADR 4x100".

None so far~ I'm VERY picky with the mods I do to this car,

Made many mistakes on my last car, biggest one was a cold air intake made our of cheap aluminum piping and a cone filter for 150. This was when the hype for CAI's was at it's peak and everyone wanted one, but can't pay the crazy prices at dealers.

I don't plan to cut corners with this one

Default biggest waste mod

.. i would have to admit that the biggest wast of $$$$ mod was my AEM cold air intake. this isnt the dealer option one but it comes right off teh throttle boddy and a bend with a cone filter.. i know the dyno doesnt lie. but i didnt feel any gain. only thing thats cool is that it makes a cool sound at idle but not worth the cash

It's not really a waste, but it is...the lights in the cup holders. I mean, it's about the most un-needed mod ever, but you know, you like it when it changes colors...So, in a way, a waste, but not really.

Man. Posting tired.

smart person me either...biggest waste of SPACE MOD would be TOO MANY STICKERS!!!

also i heard that the Injen polished cover starts to pit after a few short months, just an FYI , i saw it in another box , and the owner advised me that he would be repolishing it (i dunno...lol)

also DEALER installed lights are highway robbery, i bought cathodes for a PC case (someone did a write up here) and installed em, the entire thing 2 dar aired was 39 dollars for 4 tubes, AND the react to sounds as well...

Well I started off cheap, only to upgrade later, so....

Chrome tip - $30
(replaced by full exhaust)

Poor man's intake - $40
(replaced by injen short ram)

I also bought a couple of red "powered by toyota" shoulder pads - $10
(now in the trash, didn't match the custom leather)

A TRD badge on the back - $25
(now the rear is shaved)

Countless "blue" headlights - $50 +
(now I have Silverstars)

So I guess you should take your time and select your mods carefully. And don't try to be cheap... Do it right the first time...

So far my biggest waste has been my carbon creations CF hood that I'm not going to use. I've just been lo lazy to post it up in the classifieds.

Edit- This has sense been sold. Sorry I completely forgot about this thread.

Can't help it.... I'm an "impulse" shopper! :D
I have no real regrets though. Some of my friends
have gone through 3 or 4 different body kits, and
custom paint jobs. Or even buy a different car every
year just to have the newest thing out. Now that's
a WASTE!

modding is a journey, not a destination. The process is more important than the product.

I have a garage full of grills, hyperwhite headlights, half made armrests, clutches, tail lights, LED's and cathode tubes...

But, the only thing I regret is selling my stock HU. The sony I replaced it with is half the man the stock used to be.

I don't know, I have a garage full of parts for a number of vehicles! Some have been installed, some haven't.

Oh yeah... And I have like 3 ebay mufflers laying around.

I didn't have the guts to ever weld one on, and kept
changing my mind on the style I wanted... Good thing
they were cheap!

I need to have a yard sale!

I got the dealers year old demo box so i got some mods i didn't want to begine with, but the biggest waste i think so far is the lighted cupholders. Second would be the Bazzoka Subwoofer.

Hella Horn... I bought a set because I wanted a more manly horn. Turns out they sound just as wimpy if not more. Come to find out there really isn't much we can do unless we install a compressor. I'm thinking about installing the stock horns along with the Hella to see if I can at least make the horn louder with more tones.

Hrm, mods are never a waste if you enjoy them.

You could say that no one needs to spend thousands of dollars on stereo equipment when you've got a perfectly good one factory-installed, but when you're stuck in traffic with nothing to do and nowhere to go, nothing puts a smile on your face like turning up your badass stereo system.

The biggest waste mod? Personally, it was those TRD shoulder pads I bought off someone here. They were probably my cheapest mod, but they're not something that you notice, or enjoy.
