Default windshield upgrade?

is there an windshield upgrade? my windshield took a few rocks which created 4 dings which eventualy cracked all the way across.. so i got an estimate for $250 to replace it but i know once i replace it, its just gonna happen again, so is there like a thicker one? less likely to ding and crack? has anyone done anything to prevent cracking?

im sure theres only one xb windshield which is the ____ty stock one... hmm bulletproof would be nice...

The Fuyao windshield is apparently the best. It was in a thread - just search on the word Fuyao. The poster put up this comment and photo:
"... Not only was the Fuyao Glass (FY) windshield of better quality and fit, the flexible seal piece around the glass... was of a MUCH higher quality..."

Default has anyone tried a deflector ???

Greetings
I finally talked the wife into getting rid of the boring gas gusler family minivan, and getting an XB. The blue one just came off the truck at the dealer ship, and we are suppose to pick it up tomorrow. CAN'T wait
Had to drag her down to look at the "box on wheels", been offfering to trade her, for my '03 vibe (Toyota Matrix with a Pontiac emblem) a much as she says she hates the XB, she is refusing to trade cars after the test drive.......

Anyway, just been reading a lot about the car, and the windshield problem seems to be a pain in the but, I was wondering if anyone has tried a bug/rock deflector. Did a search and the 1st one that came up was here http://www.weathertech.com made for the XB and everything. If is rocks hitting the winshield, the deflector should help, shouldn't it ???

I think my 1st upgardes will be the defletor, the bumper guard, and strut bar.
I love the car, and I don' have it yet. Already nicknamed it the "Wife's box"

Oh by the way, this forum is great, thanks in advance for all the info. How too's etc . from a guy that enjoyes getting his hands dirty doing his own work/repair/upgrades

I'm thinking of trying this on my current beat-to-heck windshield, and testing for visibility. if it works, it's gonna be on my next windshield.

what's the big idea bub? j/k

who cares? the idea is about glass, and what to do to keep it. you should check out some of the videos for this stuff... wouldn't be bad to have all around the car (any car )

The deflector works two ways:
1. It protects the leading edge of the hood.
2. It throws the air upward, and anything that passes over the hood encounters this updraft.

If something is iight enough to be blown upward, it may be deflected from hitting the windshield. Bugs are light enough to be affected, but pebbles and rocks are not.

If a rock is going to hit the windshield, it will miss the deflector. If a big rock hits the deflector, it might be deflected (bounced) up into the windshield. If a small pebble hits the deflector, it might be deflected (bounced) over the car.

So the "stone" protection does not work well for the windshield. And since the xB hood is so short and the windshield is so high, I doubt if even "bug" protection works perfectly.

Here's a chemical approach to bug protection:
"The Bug Blocker! gel turned into plastic right before my eyes...unbelievable!"
http://www.detailcity.com/diamondite-bug-blocker.html

However, it is only for paint and is temporary, best applied and removed daily. It is good for the front end of the xB for a trip.
For bug protection of the windshield, Rain-X makes it easier to clean off their residue.
