xb drivers and passenger seat belt light (turned off!)
Hello peeps, I have just recently purchased a new 2006 XB. My first import! I have to say I love it , except for the annoying drivers and passenger seat belt lamps. I am in the automotive industry and have found out through friends that the method for turning off these annoying lamps is well guarded. HOWEVER i did manage to turn mine off WITHOUT making it permanent or damaging anything and WITHOUT using the ignorant instructions of either buckling my belt or getting a seat belt extension.
Keep in mind people have the choice regardless of any law that is imposed on americans of what they want to do. The following is purely a choice that you have to make regardless of who tells you different. I tend to never follow the rules so if safety is your concern then dont do it........
On my 2006 XB each belt buckle has a flimsy switch that plugs up into the bottom of the buckle. This switch will easily pull out of the bottom of the buckle. In fact if you have trouble pulling the switch out there is a small hole in the metal arm that a small screwdriver will fit into to aid in releasing the switch. Once you have either switch out there is a cover on the switch that can be easily opened. Be careful there is a small spring about the size of a ball point pen spring that has to be removed in the longest part of the small extension at the furthest most location from the wiring. If you simply remove the spring snap it all back together, one can simply buckle and unbuckle the seat belt once and ala peanut butter sandwiches NO MORE SEATBELT LIGHT!!!!!! Keep in mind to save the spring should you want to fix your XB back to safety "standards". Was easy, was simple ,was very cost effective and took about 10 minutes out of my day.
Please note: this proceedure is not recommended for anyone who has any concern of safety or respect for laws in your area. Please check the laws in your area before modifying anything on any vehicle you own!

Considerting the fact that seat belts are required by law in most places (If not federally), I'd be careful about telling people how to get around devices designed to make people wear their seatbelts.
Personally, I think it's foolish to not wear seatbelts, regardless of their comfort level, especially since many health insurances and some car insurances are void if the driver/passanger is not wearing their belt = lots of pain and lots of $$$.

Not wearing seat belts is a bad idea in my opinion but then again I don't think we should be forced to wear helmets when riding a bike. It would be handy to remove the one for the passenger seat since my briefcase sets the damn thing off all the time. It doesn't take much weight on the seat to make the Box think someone is riding in it.
