Default xb firewall access hole?

is there any points of access from the interior through the firewall??

i just got a sirius unit and i need to run the antenea out of the car... i think it would be perfect if i could run it trhough the firewall and set the antenea on my hood, mainly so i dont have to run a wire from the front out the back.... i took a look but i didnt see a place i could slip the lil wire through.... i figured some one would know, if you installed after market fogs or something... thanks in advance

There are two..... one on each side(driver/passenger).
If you follow the wiring harness from the drivers side is goes directly into the firewall at a rubber grommet looking thing.

There is one on the other side as well.

I just punched a hole through with a sharp object. There is the option of cutting one of the "accessory" tabs, and feeding the wire throught there, but I would make sure to weatherproof it after I did that.

Sorry, I don't have any pics available.

i punched a hole thru the grommit with a sharp object then used a Bic pen that i removed both ends of the pen so it was a tube, and pushed it thru the little hole. Then ran the wires thru the hole, and then pulled the pen thru the opposite side i inserted it.

hmm sounds like a plan... i found the spot yous are talkin bout... i gonna try to pry it open a bit to run the line... the wire is thin but the plug part is the problem... but i suppose using this spot is a hell of alot easier then drilling...

you punched a hole through the rubber piece im assuming?

depending on the wires in the plug, i cut the wire, and rewired it once i got it thru the hole.

If youare talking about the antenna plug for Sirius/XM... it is a coaxial cable(I think). You need a good set of eyes to splice that. It is very small. There should be the innerwire(signal) and the outerwire(shiled/ground). Solder it together to reduce signal loss.

You may think about taping the end to a coat hanger.

Wrap it up nice,so there are no hard edges. Then pull it through.

My XM antenna is top center above the windshield. It's real easy to push the wire behind the windshield molding. It's almost like they left a space for doing this. Run the wire out in the area where the door opens and go through the grommit in the door jam.

As far as "going through" the grommit, I've used a wire coat hanger with the wire duct taped to the wire about 1'' back from the tip. The tip of the coat hanger punctures the grommit and then you run the wire through with the hanger. I've done this to the drivers side grommit for installing gauge & Stereo wires.

Nothing better than doing a project with duct tape and a coat hanger!!

did you cut the wire first? its a single strand wire... so it appears... idunno how comfortable i am with splicing it and putting it back together.... i thought this sounded like a good job for a hanger... im gonna wait for daylight tommarow and see how im going to approach this
