funny thing, my clutch never slipped from shifting...
around 4000rpm the clutch would start to loose its grip...it would keep the same speed but the rpm's would run up to redline.
i would have to fan the clucth to get grip again...

i boosted the motor later on and really blew it out...hehehe
couldn't get out of the driveway..shifted between the gears while sitting still without the clutch....
yep mine was similar in 4th gear highway accell 4k and up it'd start slipping then go back to gripping again . oddd. would slip up to 6k but normally just slip a thousand rpms or so . since i've taken my intake off it doesnt slip anymore. 1 more dreaded effect of smog illegal part , well not in general but my intake happens to be illegal , lol. argh. d'oh

wow. . . never had that happen. . . only when I shift fast the revs don't drop, they just kinda hold the RPM for a really long time (when I push it as hard as it can possibly be pushed). That's actually scary to hear that it would slip under plain acceleration.

This really worries me, because I *know* I have syncro
issues. At first I thought it was just me being stupid, but
dude, I drove the original clutch on my SAAB up to 330,000
miles, and I've got two Porsches, all are manual and I've
never had any issues with stick.

I'm really worried I'm going to be putting money into having
the trans and clutch replaced way before it's time!

Default XB problem as well

I am also having a problem with my XB 14,000 mile. still under factor warranty

New Car Limited Warranty covers any repairs needed to correct defects in material or workmanship.

my trunk latch came off in my hand. There was no accident or fault beyond normal use. They are refusing to pay for anything. So now I am trying to cut through the scion bs by pushing through toyota themselves. have afeeling we cant win. Once they make an "expert diagnosis" they act like that it. SCION is a very LO grade Toyota product.

I was wondering if you had found any way to get this solved either.

im coming on just up 20k (i cant believe it, 1yr few mos.) i think my synchros suck. the clutch seems to slip lightly at a fast start, (no high rpm drops, just throttle to get on the frwy)

is this happening w/ppl w/stock shifters and short shifters alike?

No high RPM drops? Sorry. . . don't quite understand what you are saying. . . are you dumping the clutch? If so, it's not designed for that.

And the OEM synchros definitely suck. . . that's the why the 1-2 shift is so bad. . . it's just the synchros. You can't really rush this tranny. I actually learned manual on a 911 GT3, so I'm in the habit of shifting fast (before the revs drop) and rushing the gears as fast as possible (so much fun). More often than not, I mis-shift waiting for the revs to drop to shift smoothly.

I think lightening the flywheel and crank will drastically improve shifting. If you can get the revs to rise/drop faster, you will acheive faster shifts. Furthermore, it will wear the clutch less. Aside from rebuilding the tranny and upgrading the clutch, it's one of the better options.

im at 13000 and my clutch is about gone. im not a boy racer either. i drive it like an old man. i dont get it. i KNOW how to drive manual so thats not the issue. Scions have weak clutches and the company should REALLY look into this problem IMO. Not that it would matter right now, but in the future they may have some class action matter with a lot of bad clutches.

The thing I cant figure out though, is that Echos have the same clutch right? Are they having problems?

thats the probelm. They are using echo parts on a car that is a wee bit heavier than an echo. Same prob here except when I go to accel. onto the freeways here is SoCal( you have be doing 80 or its at a dead stop ) it will jump or slip at high rpms. I'm not taking it to 6500 then shifting either

not only is the xb almost 300 pounds heavier. most people mod them more (more hp) as well as scions have different gear ratios.

Default 49K and still ok

I drive in the NJ/NY City area on Rt 3 and Rt 46 stop and go for miles.
I now have 49K on the car, no slippage so far. That said tomorrow it
will slip hell.

Clutch holding up so far, only thing I noticed is at a stop I here a rattle
sounds like a diesel engine. If I push in the clutch it stops ??

You got to watch the RPMs on these cars, they drop quick between
shifts witch causes scuffing. The other problem is down shifting
that will add to ware if you do that a lot especially if you let the engine
die down before you drop a gear. The AC adds to the RPM holding
problem, bigger flywheel would have been nice, but then the engine
would be more of a slug than it is now.

In traffic pace yourself, idle along and let enough space to buffer the
stars and stops, yea you will have some guy on your ___ having a fit
because you left a car length in front of you. He is just burning up his
brakes staying 2 inches off of your bumper, let him he will drop dead
of a heart attack soon anyway.

what's wrong with 4k rpm drops?
Because its better at 4.5k to 5k!

I'm joking, I'm joking. Don't try this at home w/ your car!

try the 5 grand drop on a rear wheel drive automatic, i've shattered drive shafts as a retarded kid...

and my clutch is having that same problem, ever since i put my wheels on my car i've noticed it, and when I had my exhaust on, it was really noticible...i'd be on the interstate trying to merge, and when I hit the gas it was like "WOW I'M GOING SO FAST.........PLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL (best fart noise I can spell out)"...its terrible, but i'm at 40k so it sounds like i'm doing better then some on this site...but still...thats doo doo brown!!!! deff. looking into upgrading my stock clutch when the funds are available =/

Default clutch issues...

I love my Xb, and I like Toyota- so dont get me wrong.
When a car company offers an upgraded "performance"clutch for a car that only puts 108max to the flywheel--and offers it at the dealership, so even new buyers can get it before they even roll off the lot... I think even they are telling us the stock clutch is a piece of crap.
