xB, reaching 3000 RPM's while going 70 MPH, way too high,
#21
its not a problem. just an unappealing aspect of the vehicle. i love everything about the b except the screaming freeway RPMs.
i could care less how it affected acceleration or the shift from 4th to 5th or anything. if i could just run 70mph at no more than 3000k rpm i'd be in heaven.

i know, isn't it sad :-( you can't even listen to music and have a comfortable conversation in the b at freeway speeds.
it's really the only big thing i'd change about the vehicle. im at like 4000rpm at 75mph and it sucks.

Im searching to see how to install 5 or 6 speed auto tranny
If any one with compatible tranny that will fit 09 or 10 xb let me know. I bilve with 5 speed auto I will be able to get 70M/H at 17K RPM that will put gas consumption at 50 M/H

my car's pretty damn quiet compared to most stock econo cars and mine is slammed, intake, header, full exhaust..... TONE of exhaust and one's expectations of a 14k car is ya'lls issue here.

we go 70MPH, and 3000 RPM's are registering which seems very high! we think there must be transmissn problem (car only has 33,000 miles on it). so we dont think the Overdrive actually works. it never freewheels when throttle is released, instead the engine brakes the car hard enough to move me forward slightly. we get only 28 miles to gallon at going 70. I need some advice, please! kathy.brady5@verizon.net

Doing some research on this subject and glad I ran across this thread. I bought an 05' XB new in the same year that has an automatic tranny and I just bought an 06' with a manual tranny. The manual tranny runs at higher rpm's than the automatic and I was just wondering if it is normal. I love both on them and plan on keeping them for a long time!

Same deal with my '05 manual. 65 mph at 3k rpm on interstate getting 34 mpg.
Around town shifting gears, getting 32 mpg. When I first got the xB I thought something
was wrong. I think as the car was designed for Japan first, city and rural driving was most important. A 6th. gear would have been nice for U.S.

overdrive on the XB
i read all of my replies, thanks! while driving say around 70mph, how do i "turn the overdrive off or on"? to tell ya the truth, all i do is drive, go 70, how does a person turn this overdrive on or off or should I even worry about it? i love the XB, but i guess i was expecting a less of a scream of a drive, like a smooth drive.
