I just happened to come across an article in the April 2005 Parent Magazine and saw the Scion xB!
Here's what it said:
ECONOMY - Whether you have a small family, a modest budget, or just need a second car, these dependable picks offer lots of bang for your buck. (Mazda 3 and Honda Civic was listed in this category, too)
$14245 to $15,045 31mpg city/35mpg highway
Family Attractions: Although marketed toward surfer types, the so-square-it's-hip xB has familyl appeal, too. It's got lavish legroom and headroom, a slew of standard safety features-including antilock brakes and stability control - and the quality engineering you'd expect from parent company Toyota. The ride is smooth, and huge windows offer terrific visibility, which makes trips more fun for little passengers. Althought the cargo is tiny, folding down half the rear seat leaves plenty of room to fit long board - er, stroller.
Real-Life Road Test: "The xB's looks got me lots of attention, and my 6-year old son raved about the room in the back. But there's not tons of storage space - a grocery run filled up the rear completely." - Debra Immergut, features editor, Parents
Safety Ratings: Not tested.

Scion xB
$14,165 to $14,965
30 mpg city/35 mpg highway
Family Attractions: A low chassis and high roofline create tons of headroom and huge windows, giving little kids great visibility. A sprawling interior compensates for the car's puny cargo area. Handy hooks on the seatbacks are perfect for hanging a diaper bag or your child's backpack. The xB hasn't been crash-tested by the NHTSA yet, but parent company Toyota has included lots of safety features -- such as antilock brakes, stability control, and traction control -- that cost extra on many other vehicles.
Real-life Road Test: "We turned lots of heads driving the cool-looking xB around town. Its big windows make you feel as if you're inside a fishbowl, which our toddler seemed to love. Handling was precise, though the engine could use more power. A week's worth of groceries didn't fit in the hatch, so we had to use part of the backseat for storage."

Just do it man! Swing the kids first, then your wife will crumble with the pressure.
