Hello,

A relay may be needed to help regulate power for the kit so that the lights will stay on consistently. Please email help@hidsupport.com and provide your Name & Order Number so we can further assist you.

Thank you.

This is bothering the hell out of me. As I mentioned sometime ago in February I bought a KenSun 8000k HID kit.

So now I am curious about the fact if one goes out:

Can I use any HID bulb on that slim ballast; or must I keep with the same company?

Does it have to be the same wattage and kelvin?

This something that is just bothering me as I am idiot coming to things like this and I would rather hear from you guys than some yahoo on yahooanswers.com.

Thanks any information is a big help!

Hello,

We STRONGLY recommend that you buy the entire kit from us as we tune the ballast and bulb to be matched with each other. We cannot guarantee proper functionality with other ballasts in the market.

Please know that we offer 1 year warranty for our kits. Please visit www.hidextra.com for more information.

Thank you.

Thanks As soon as I am in need of a new bulb I'll more than likely just buy a new kit from you guys.

Which btw reminds me does anyone have pictures of theirs on this site so i can have a general idea of what they look like at night? The ones I have now by Kensun are pretty good and look awesome but I keep hearing everyone getting theirs from here but have yet to see any

here is what mine looks like with the kensun 8000k:

I got my new 35w 5000k hid's today (to replace my 3 yr old set from Hidextra). Much brighter than the 35w 6000k. For some reason, I can see a lot of "lines" going diagonally in the light shining out on the road. Is it possible I didn't notice this before because the 6000k was not very bright? Or did I install the bulb the wrong way? I have the metal pin attached to the bulb facing the bottom, not the top...which I assumed is correct. Not a deal breaker but want to know if other xB owners experience the same thing with the brighter output. I don't think the scion projector is great quality if this is normal...then again it is a very inexpensive car

6000k is bluer in tint than 5000k; the 'bluer' you get the more light is absorbed by particles in the air and less output is put onto whatever is in front of you; compare the 6000k in the rain to the 5000k in the rain should be a noticeable difference.

has to do with the wavelengths of light at those color temperatures...

technically if you were to go to true white, which is 3500K you would notice even more light output. 3500K is also what most OEM HID's are kelvin rated at.

I roll with 5000K on the scion and I have a retro fit 3500K on my 1ga talon, the retro fit is wayyy brighter than the scion setup, though that could be from other factors.

the problem with the bluer/purpler lights is the misconception that this is what gives off the 'luxury look'; really what you are seeing is light diffraction or the prism-effect, which is caused when a cut off shield/lens combo is nice and clean; the flicker you see from your rear-view mirror when a luxury car hits a bump is that prism area (or the area right at your cutoff shield) that is just hitting your line of sight from your rear/side view mirror; unfortunately the cutoff-shield and lens used on the scion projectors aren't ideal for this situation. they are murky (which means more dispersion, but also less-clean cut-off).

see the 'rainbowy' colors above... that's what gives off that 'luxury' look from bimmers etc. caused by diffraction or a really nice cut-off shield coupled with good lenses.

To further demonstrate:

3500K Retrofit from theretrofitsource.com

ebay sealed beam that will be hacked

hacked housing with plastic glass pried off

mocked-up

bracketed-in

on-car with DIY halos

above cut-off

in the diffraction area (or right AT cut-off)

below cut-off (in the light)

from a distance you can see the above cut-off, in cut-off, and below-cutoff colors dispersed on my scion

compare that to the toaster with HID mobilekit

un-modded cut-off shield (notice glare areas above cutoff shield aka 'squirrel finders')

modded cut-off shield, but notice no real diffraction and cut-off isn't as clean

up-close too dispersed caused by cut-off and lens combo

hopefully these links stay static. i'm in and out of these forums so sorry if i don't reply lol.

Are those the FX-R projectors that they offer on their site?

I've been running my S2000 retro and won't go back. Period. It took time to get everything put together, but the output is 110% better than OEM projectors with HID. SO MUCH BETTER.

Those look great. I have a problem with my new set I got yesterday. The driver side hid is flickering. This is exactly what my old kit did before it would finally (at random) shut off completely....just the driver side. This is the slim 35w 5000k kit from hidextra. Do I need a relay?? I didn't think I would since it is just 35w. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Tom! I hope we can get it resolved. In the meantime, I probably will try not to use the lights as the constant flickering probably does harm to the bulb.

Well I figured I'd throw my hat in here as well. I'd love to do a retrofit but money is tight, so here's what I did in the meantime.

I just cracked open my headlights this week to paint the insert flat black. While they were open I went ahead and broke off the squirrel finder tabs and also cut and fitted smoked plexiglass replacements for the amber side markers. Here's the only crappy iPhone pic I have yet of the housings:

And yes, I know the outside of my lens is bit scuffed. It came that way when I bought the car used. I plan on wet sanding it a bit to try and get most of it out.

Also, here's a quick shot from my cellphone I took at my work parking garage of the HIDs without the squirrel finders in the stock halogen projector housings:

Obviously not as nice as a true HID projector being retro-fitted, but definitely better than the original stock housing with the squirrel finders. Just my two cents. I'll take better pics this weekend if anyone is interested in seeing more. Thanks.

DDM Tuning

So guys i read all the post's up here and i am interested in getting the 6000k or8000k low and high beam kits and a kit for another car. Anything i need to know, what i gather is there are some issues but customer service is great at getting you helped out. Only thing that i have gathered is that i will need a relay harness for the highbeam set.
