Picture 2:

Still fugly, but the basic form is coming along, just need to finish smoothing/rounding the front, and getting the curve right in the back.

Got about another hour of work done today, probably 1-2 hours of work left until I can start on body filler work.

Sure do. Still have a lot of work to do before I even think of resale, but I'm getting there slowly but surely.

Last thing on my plate when all that is taken care of, is to devise a plan for mounting these to the car. I was originally thinking of doing an entirely new air dam made of plastic, but being that I do all this work at an apartment, I'm not too sure I want to deal with all the chemicals associated with the process, much less all the extra fab work involved. What will probably end up happening is this grille fitting over the stock air dam, just like the stock grille, and then some hardware permanently attached that will allow the grille to be mounted using the stock mounting bolts and clips in the oem locations. Plan to be done with the foam either this week or next.

Still. It's exciting to see something in the works that isn't mesh or billet.

Totally understand what you guys mean. I had a 1st gen xB to start with, and I remember having tons of options where grilles and eyelids were concerned. The fact that my original xB was so easy to customize was really what made me love scions, but I have to say, we've gotten a little screwed with aftermarket for the current xB's.

Applying body filler now, 1st coat is halfway done. I'll post pics up this afternoon once the second coat is sanded smooth.

wow... i started ona grill for the XB and it went into one of my unfinished projects box..

i give you credit for all the effort..

you should try to use Surf baord foam to carve..

or if your really serious about producing this design you should hit up www.forjworks.com they can make your idea come to life and produce it for you..

Hey thanks man, I'll keep that in mind. I was actually considering contacting you when I got this done and finding out how much they're charging you for those eyelids. I plan on being done with this early next week.

I'm loving how this process is going along. The grille looks great and certainly interesting for the look. As long as the air flow in the car (as I've read in previous pages of this topic) is not comprised and enough air can reach the radiator (which I've read comes through the bottom grill vents), then I'll definitely look into purchasing one of these. It is one of the more unique grills for the xB that I have seen and has certainly peaked my interest. I commend you for an interesting design.

FYI, you should probably hit up forjworks for mass production. Trying to fill demands and orders out of your apartment would be quite tough.

Thanks, I'm actually a little farther along now, just haven't posted any recent pics. I got started on finally completing my degree, and just haven't had as much time to work on this project. I'll finish it soon enough, and then I do plan on going through someone else to have them mass produced.

Excellent news. I am subscribed to this topic and duly await updates on your end. Your grille design is quite unique and is something I have taken great interest in. Your prototype better be designed in Classic Silver!
