I presume the water would eventually "go away" and the sticky tape would be left to do its job. Anybody tried this technique? I don't mean the tape would be the only thing holding the spoiler on, you would still use the normal fasteners, this

They are fools! The wing comes with "tabs" on the tape that get pulled off after you have the wing where you want it. (You can't move the wing much anyways as the studs on the wing won't allow you to move it more than a few mm).

So after you drill your holes in the correct spot, you test fit the wing to make sure you have drilled correctly, get the bolts and nuts started pull the tabs, press down on the wing then snug up your bolts! Done!

dude that is to much for dealer installation. Why not use 3m tape to tape the spoilder? Would save you tons of money and in the future, you can just take it right off if you ever change your mind in getting a new spoiler.

3M tape does not hold the spoiler on.

Just tape the template to the back of your hatch and then drill it. It's the safest, surest bet. Installing mine myself (I bought the eBay knock-off for $120 painted) was free and only took 1.5 hours (I was scared to drill).

I used rustproofing paint around the raw metal I drilled as well as a can of air to blow away any residual metal shavings.

i guess i can give an update on mine.
i used both bolts and tape.
ive had zero problems.
i check the bolts from time to time & they have never been loose, i used the tape to minimize and vibrations.

i got the one on ebay painted for only $110. it looks perfect and not too hard to install. just one hole to drill instead of 2 so i replaced the foam with 3m tape. took about 2hrs worst part was drilling through your paint!

I'd suggest that you consider swapping out for a different spoiler, apart from OEM.

That one features simple aesthetics, but naturally, I favor the grandiose.

The Mafia spoiler is really attractive to me.

IMHO this is the best looking spoiler made for the xB2, but I don't think it's available in the U.S.

To each their own my friend. Honestly, I evaluated that spoiler as well and it looks great in those shots, but from a distance, it doesn't stand out as much. And you know that I like to make a statement with my xB.

(And by the way, I'll need your approval on wheels later this year because I'm going to get rid of my current ones).

It looks really good, so maybe one day I will swap my spoiler for that one. Maybe.

I just really like how smoothly it blends into the stock roof-line and tail-gate. The others just look like Mr. Potato Head plug-ins to me... but like you said, "To each their own my friend."

@CIONIDE: But you don't have a spoiler! When are you getting one, if at all? I know you have a shark fin, but that rounded look can't be good for your soul, right?

I went with an old school panel truck look (larger rear wheels & tires than front), without the Mr. Potato-head plug-in spoiler look. I think it looks great with the Shark-fin antennae, and I never really liked the look of the fin antennae with the Mr. Potato-head TRD rear spoiler.

Scotto, I've heard a few people ask that question and most people that have answered have said no, sadly. I wish it did cuz it's such a pain having to hose off that window every few days just so I can see. But I suppose that's the price we pay for driving a box at high speed. =]

Who's installed a spoiler (OEM or eBay) on a Carbon Fiber hatch? I'm not sure if the same access to all areas is available on the CF hatch so I was looking for some quick info.
