Default xB 2008/09 going to buy but concerned about windshild cracks

javascript:emoticon('') I am going to purchase one in next week. 2009 xB is redesigned and I liked that box on wheel. Only one problem i was reading about xB is windshield cracks because of small pebbles. Sometime it cracks on its own. The windshield design is almost vertical like Jeep or Honda Element. There are forums and sites devoted to this problem
Has anybody experienced cracks in 2008/09 xB windshield because of design flaw?
Is there any kind of protector film to prevent cracking?
How easy is it to deal with not-so-friendly dealers after this problem? Has scion issued any recalls?
Your input will help my purchase decision, before it is too late to regret my decision.
Thanks

Just lower your comprehensive deductible on your auto insurance policy to $100, or get the windshield replacement rider if your insurance company offers it. That way your worst case scenario is $100 to replace the windshield if it ever cracks.

Yeah, but that is not correct approach. Lowering deductable can be done on any other car.
I am interested to know if there is any design flaw or poor quality windshields on xB.
If it is design flaw, should I buy xB at all or not?

trust me the windshield is strong as f*ck. me and my girl were driving to scion vip in vegas going about 75-80 or so and was comin up on a 18 wheeler. one of the tires picked up and threw a rock about the size of a ping pong ball and i was expecting a crack, but upon inspection and belief there wasnt even a chip in the windshield.

theres another post on here were a guys wife completely totaled the front end the engine was pushed back to the fire wall and the windshield didnt even crack.

I have not had a single problem yet either. I have had pebbles hit off my windshield without a crack or chip so I wouldnt worry about it.

had one crack real quick at around 3000 miles. Got it fixed, no more issues and I'm now at about 32,000 miles.

I've had two experiences with windshield cracks. Both were rock chips, but luckily I didn't change it out the first time, so I only have to replace once. Wrong place at the wrong time I guess...

18K on mine and have been hit "many" times with small rocks on the freeway. Former Nissan pickup windshield chipped and cracked with same rocks. XB just fine. Was acually surprised it didn't chip or crack with latest "hit"

I've got a crack and need to replace it. Deductable $500, but in shopping around, found one for $325 installed.

To be safe I'd like to ask, what has everyone paid for theirs?

I got a crack from a rock just a few months after buying my XB....and another crack later on.....several rock chips. Haven't replaced the windshield with a $500 deduct....it's not illegal yet....and it's a daily driver not show...so I haven't bothered to replace it and put $$ into other mods instead LOL

Default all good here :)

I'm at just under 8k on my 08 xb and there are not cracks, scratches or nothing on my windsheild. Actually, a week after I first got it a dump truck full of scrap metal was in front of me on I95 and something flew straight at me. It scared the crap out of me (it was a good 6in by 6in big) but nothing happened. It smudged some dirt but that wiped right off. I was cruising at 80mph too.

yeah, i thought the 08 redesign took care of the problem. i don't think the 2nd gen is any more prone to windshield cracks from rock chips than most other cars.
