Default AEM Bypass Valve

Im going to be ordering the AEM CAI powder coat (21-577P) soon and was wondering if anyone knew which bypass valve is correct.

I'm adding the TRD bumper vent and moving to a rainy city, so the bypass valve is a must. (man, v-leds, billet grille and now this, Im spending money like CRAZY!)

Well, AEM just got back and said no bypass on that model. CRAP!

Dunno, I might need to consider something else, or the TRD unit.

Opinions welcome

You mean you can get the Tenzo CAI, AEM bypass and filter for less than the AEM CAI with no bypass valve? Not like anyone who doesn't go 4-wheeling actually needs a bypass valve but it still sounds like a good deal. Personally I just avoid deep water crossings where my filter might be submerged deeply enough to cause the engine to suck in enough water to hydro-lock it...

Tenzo + AEM filter + Bypass = not cheap anymore

I might still get the AEM, just will need to be careful.

i've got one, i bought for my injen c.a.i., but never put it on.i also have the water repalent sleeve for the intake. and the injen heat shield. i bought all this but dont use it.

How is Weapon R quality? They have a pretty neat short ram.

I found the gunmetal Tenzo, aem bypass and aem filter for under $250 shipped. How much is the AEM CAI these days? Not knocking the AEM or your choice but IMHO a 3" CAI is a 3" CAI and bypass valves are overkill for most.

30 years ago I used to run water from a garden hose through my built 396 to clean up carbon deposits. Mind you it was only a trickle and I revved the engine to keep it from stalling but steam cleaning works! I can't remember exactly where I got the idea but if IIRC it was Carroll Shelby's advice in Hot Rod magazine.

Today I would use a spray bottle instead of a garden hose but the results would be much the same.

Edit: The W-R short ram is a nice HAI. It probably loses very little hp vs the oem airbox in the summer.

I just opted for the TRD CAI. I like TRD parts, and even though they are pricey, you get good stuff.

So, spent some dough in the last two weeks:

Upper and lower billet grille's $275
Vled's $80
CAI $299



Think I'm gonna get that dual Borla exhaust next. Really like the way it looks.

The TRD CAI is very nice and if cost wasn't a factor, I'd get TRD or AEM. I think you'll be happy with it. I like what you're doing with your mods. The Borla duals are nice, LEDs are great and the stock grill is fugly.

BTW, avoid these V-LED bulbs: http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/C...81083-1-2.html

My first pair failed in a few months and V-LED refused to post my review of them. My review was very fair but mentioned that they failed very quickly and it seems they didn't want to post that on their site.

Hehe, thanks.

I watched a lot of youtube vids and really like the low Borla growl.

I actually went ahead and ordered the Borla and TRD CAI at the same time

Will be a nice week, installing upper billet, TRD CAI and the Borla. I hope I can do the exhaust myself, really dont see why not.

I really like the V-leds in the front blinkers. The white and the headlights look good at night, and just the white lights during the day look really neat.

I like the Borla look and sound. The only option when I bought was TRD and although it has a nice tone, it was too quiet for my taste until I installed a header. Now it's perfect (for me anyway).

If you use a lift, the exhaust should be a snap. If not, you can still do it with jackstands but it won't be much fun.

Yeah, I just have ramps. Might need to take it somewhere and let them do it

My bad... I thought the Borla was a cat-back. You should have little trouble installing an axle-back with ramps if you back onto them.

Yeah, its just bolted at the flange by the axle. I was thinking of backing on the ramps and going to work.
