But what do they mean by "Custom lower inlet grill?"
Does that mean you remove the fake grill from the corner and replace it with an actual vent?

The vent and drawing air in from the outside is very cool.

However, I've seen a few pics of this installed and it doesn't look nearly as "cool" or nice as the way the AEM one looks to me.

I am super torn on what to do. I look the idea of the AEM with it being oil-less but this design is really slick with with the vent.

Oh well, I guess I'll wait it out a little longer till we find out more.

 

I wanna see what it looks like with the vent.
Im' sure you could just pull the plastic cover off if you get the AEM instesd.

I think with the flat style and the vent, this might actually work better then the AEM CAI!

 

Do you think you have to be concerned about water/rain with this CAI?

 

Hopefully someone can get pics of the other sides/back of the airbox. I'd like to see the opening that the fake grill replacement lets air get to....or any opening on the box at all.

Seems like just moving a restrictive airbox from one place to another wouldn't be worth the price. With an open filter that would be less restrictive, which is part of the point of an aftermarket intake. Hell, I don't know, if the new open grill insert allows air directly into the new airbox, that will make it much more appealing to me.

 

Yeah, my understading (or wishfull thinking!) is that the box attaches to the inside of the fender right where the open vent is.

trdsparks just put up instructions. So it looks like the housing is one sided. It's a flat square filter element that faces the new vent opening. The back of the housing is all enclosed and mounts to the chassis/body at a few points.

I just don't know how I feel about this CAI?

I think the AEM one looks much better in the car. The way this TRD one bends and routes looks out of place. I do like the way it's mounted it braced so well, but boy if you ever have to service this it would be a _____.

Maybe I'm wrong but to me it seems like with air flow coming in where it is down so low it seems like that filter element could get dirty fast.

Also I'm curious as I've been told that rain/water can be an issue as well for CAI. This spot seems like it could be a big issue there.

The idea of it drawing in cold air and being forced in through that vent is awesome though. It would be kinda cool if we could just get the vents standalone.

 

i still kinda want a short ram so that i can play with the stock piping to feed colder air up to the cone...
