You all know that having a working remote start disables the immobilizer circuit so if you don't have an alarm with or a manual ignition cut, you have no theft protection, right?

just saying.

Well, you're supposed to unlock the door, put the key in the ignition, then drive off. If you step on the brake before you put the key in, the engine shuts off.

I'm 99.9% certain that stealing an XB with the Scion remote start would be just as hard as stealing one without it. I don't know about aftermarket kits.

That would be pretty convenient. I suppose that's an aftermarket kit?

Unfortunately for me it got cold early and has stayed cold here so I haven't even installed it yet. I ended up buying a second car for winter use. I got a 93 Subaru Legacy wagon that doesn't even have remote entry but it does have AWD.

When I hit the remote to open the doors while the car is running with the doors locked, the car cuts off.

Yep, thats the way aftermarket kits work. My Viper has 1 mi. line of sight range, and is 2-way. Great stuff. Don't have the remote start hooked up though. No need in Hawaii

The 2-way Compustar I had would allow me remote unlock the doors, and as long as I didn't hit the brakes, i could put the key in and turn to the run position and drive away. That was with a manual trans.

But, like I said, it defeated the immobilizer. If you ONLY install the remote start without an alarm it can be hotwired oldschool style, or worse. If you're not familiar with the system, sorry, I'm not going into the mechanics of how they are set up.

The only time I left mine working was in my alarmed garage or at work where I could see it through my office window where I could hit the panic shut-down button.
