2008 xB had the tell tale sign of the pink line on the underside of the hood, leaking pump confirmed by a Toyota tech at the dealership, and then replaced under warranty at 47,239 miles. We'll see how the 2012 does.

I have a 2005 tc but also have the water pump problems. I'm only posting because I believe it is the same engine and water pump. Failed the first time at 49,000 miles. The second at 81,000. It was covered the first time under warranty. The second time it was a $300+ bill.

That's crazy....

How one model has huge problem while other models with same motors aren't getting this problem as little to none.

I have put 235k on a tC. I never once had this problem.

Since I just bought a 12 box: I hope I have the same luck.

Mine started leaking bad at about 60k, right before i started my engine build. At 52k miles, not one drop.

Also it really does not matter what car you have, all water pumps connected to the 2.4l and most of toyotas are not the best in the world. I have stated on here before that if toyota has one fault its their water pumps. I work for toyota have for 5 years so i see why they come into the shop. However i would rather have a 150 Fix vs thousands and if thats the worst thing i have to worry about im laughing.

If you have the pink line under your hood, then it needs to be replaced. Go to another dealership, or call Scion so that they can instruct the dealership you went to on filing the warranty claim.

dead on, i work for toyota and this is covered at any point when it starts leaking. Take it to a different dealership and call and complain about that one.

Any way to add vehicle year to poll? I (should say the wife) has the 2010 RS7 xB and have not heard about anyone with that particular year with a water pump failure...

I have noticed a WHITE line under my hood, passenger side. Not PINK but it troubles me figure I should take it in just to be safe. Coolant is a hair low but haven't ever noticed a coolant smell. 2009 w/45000miles

Water pump failed today @147. First time since purchasing my baby. Much...much easier than my '02 V6 Passat. Getting one from Pep Boys tomorrow.

Mine had let a little coolant out around 30k but hasn't ever since...or at least my coolant level is ok and there's no splatter from it under the hood.

Way late to the party on this one!
Failure at 223,000!
Also, now have water in the #3 cylinder ...
Going to try and pressure check each cylinder with a gauge to see if it is only the head gasket. This seems to be an issue when the pump completely fails and dumps all the water while traveling on the highway.
Anyone's experienced this? Pointers or ideas?
