Boomslang PnP harness FTL
I installed my FIC today using my $500+ Boomslang harness. The first thing I noticed is that they use different colored wires for the extra accessory leads. I had to call them up to find out what the 2 extra leads are for. They used orange instead of brown for the UEGO (0-5V) input and white/blue stripe instead of white for the user switch input. They didn't bother to include any directions or the switched 12V out lead which would be ideal for triggering water/meth injection.
That's not so bad but the fact that they didn't bother to include the CPS resistor mod ____es me off a lot. Especially when I called them weeks ago to ask about it and was told that the resistor mod was included in the harness. Well, apparently there is no CPS resistor because I'm getting a P0335 crank sensor CEL and my car is undriveable with their $500+ harness.
Did I mention that Boomslang charges $500 for a PnP harness that requires the end-user to modify it to work and if they want a 12V switched output? For that kind of money it should actually be PnP as advertised. I was going to buy from Dezod but they're taking forever and only seem to care about TC's.

The CPS problem doesn't seem to affect everyone but since the resistor mod has no detrimental effects, Boomslang should have included it for those that do need it. BTW, even without the code, some have experienced misfires at high-rpm that were eliminated by the resistor mod. There's really no good reason not to do it.

Scionfred, this is not true as we have been working on the FIC harness for the xB for sometime now, but have hit plenty of brick walls with our first harness. We've had crank errors we could not overcome, which have shut down the vehicle. We have tried resistor mods to help to no avail......We are now going to try another FIC to see if that is the cause.....

FYI, from Boomslang directly:
All the Scion (tc/xa/xb) harness we’ve made since late 2008 have resistors on the cam/crank/timing ground. They are sealed up with heat shrink and are not openly visible.

I apologize for implying that you only care about TCs. It's certainly not your fault that the TC market is so much bigger. You are running a business afterall and I appreciate the R&D that you do for the small XB market.
BTW, I just spoke with AEM and they suggested an alternate method for connecting the CPS wires. Intercept the + input and output but only tap into the - input, leaving the - output alone. He also stated that World Racing has had zero problems with their PnP harness and suggested that I contact them for a possible solution. Maybe they did something different? I have no idea.
Interestingly, AEM now recommends z107.hex slave firmware for the TC. They stated that when they re-tested while developing their PnP harness, they found that z107 works better than z104, eliminating some hesitation issues with fueling. If and when I get the CPS issues sorted, I guess I'll try z107.

No problem Cory. It was good talking with you.
I haven't confirmed how Boomslang wired the crank and cam sensors in their harness but I did just learn that AEM updated their FIC/6 wiring schematics on 10/7/09. They no longer recommend intercepting the - crank and cam wires. Now they say to just tap into the - crank and cam wires.
