Ok Idk if anyone is still watching this thread but heres another update from my experience. USB works great and Im using a 2gb Stormtrooper Flash Drive. (yes stormtrooper). Aux is not working and I switched the 14 into the 18 slot. there is one cord that is not being used from t original setup and I think it is the OEM Ipod/Aux cord. Oh well right now as long as USB works fine with me. hers finished pics. Waiting for my amp and rear speakers before proceeding further but all is installed.

Well, I've pretty much given up on a cheaper alternative to the factory cabling. So, I ordered a 6' USB male to female cord, and I'm going to solder it to the board directly and bypass the stupid proprietary clip. I'll post up some pictures when it I get around to doing the work.

Anyone can DIY the cable?

As I understand, there are only two wires need to be connected to Park and Reverse. If anybody brought the Alpine Video Input kit, please confirm if I am correct: Pin 1 for Park and Pin 5 for Reverse...

All I need is to install the backup camera to Alpine head unit, I did it!

Default PT233-47100 USB Interface Kit

The proprietary USB cable with Part # PT233-47100 works with the Pioneer T1815 radio, which I installed in my 2008 xB today. This part no. was for a 2010 Prius hatchback with Navigation, but it works. I had to cut/file a little off the end that plugs into the head unit and it works fine. The other end is a direct fit with the AUX/USB port. They make one end odd in the kit because it plugs into the ECU that ships with it to keeps end users from plugging it into the wrong hole on the Prius. I used a knife and a file because I did not have a dremel where I was working. I did the pin 14 to 18 switch and the AUX port on the center console works too.

I plugged the USB/AUX port into the blank next to the gearshift. I will eventually move the USB/AUX port to the center console. I should have measured the length of the USB cable, but I didn't. It looked roughly 4 feet long. I placed one end of the cable outside the center console at the height of the iPod port, ran it along the floor to the dash at the height of the radio and it appeared long enough reach at both ends outside of everything. It may or may not have the length, but it looks like it does.

I found the kit priced at $75.00 at http://www.trdsparks.com/part_detail...um=PT233-47100. It was $81.75 shipped to my upstate NY location. The web page states LTD QTY AVAILABLE AT THIS PRICE (Their caps, not mine). It was still available at the time of this post.

the 45w amp is compatible with any stereo just cut of the harnesses and wire accordingly.

Dave I just wanted to say thank you for your write up I was able to get the radio really cheap and I am in the process of talking to Alpine through my local dealer to get the right parts for the ipod and aux connections. That sheet you put up REALLY helped! Do you think if I only want the camera I can bypass the Alpine cord and just plug in the camera directly to the back (number 9 on your sheet). I know this is an older post and I am new to the site, so please let me know if there is a better place to ask this or if this is fine. Thanks again!

The video input from the camera does plug directly into the back of the radio, however the Alpine Video Input harness includes the trigger wire to tell the radio when the vehicle is in reverse and switch to the video.

If you're the crafty DIY kind you could probably come up with some single wire connector that could fit over the necessary pin to just trigger the backup camera. A professional custom audio installer could probably accomplish this if you're not up for the task. YMMV!

Thanks for the thanks. It's amazing to see how much attention this post has gathered over the years on this forum.

Good luck!

ordered my alpine unit for my 08, should be in the mail today. anyone confirm this method would work with the alpine unit as well? are the pioneer units similar to the alpines? trying to figure out what i need to get to make the alpine fully functional in the xb without jumping through a whole bunch of hoops. this would be great if it would work for the alpine unit

Great thread! I recently got this head unit, but decided it was going to cost too much extra to get the iPod/USB functionality in my '05 xB. I can't post in the classifieds here, b/c I don't have 50 posts yet. See it here:

Even though it's a different username, bigdwiz = mp3superfreak = oldschoolstereo

BTW, Dave90T, I borrowed your picture showing the rear connections, hope you don't mind...

First, I just wanted to say that this is a great post. TONS of info. I am doing trying to do almost the opposite that most everyone else is trying to do. I have a 2011 XB and got a free nav unit from a friend at toyota. Everything works except for the IPOD/AUX. I was wondering if there is a cable that plugs into the factory plug in the car (looks like the IPOD plug in the IPOD/AUX cable) to the normal plug in the back of the radio. I'm not sure about the number of pins in the connector, I'll look tomorrow. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

I have the alpine unit and was frustrated like a lot of people when optimize stopped making the video input kit. After weeks of research, I was able to get the pieces I needed finally and made a harness that works to allow the back up camera. It is plug and play and involves no soldering, you just have to tap the reverse wire behind the glove box. I plugged in a digital camera via the yellow video cable and got picture on the screen along with the "check surroundings for safety" message at the bottom of the screen. The cost of fabricating the harness for just the back up camera was about $30 and that was for the wire with terminal, connector, splices, and extra wire. Unfortunately, I did not fabricate a video harness because the costs of the needed wires makes the thing about $100. So until I can find a cheaper supplier of a few specific parts then it is a little too expensive. I have an extra wire with terminal and the needed pieces to make another back up camera harness if anyone is interested. I would be glad to let it go for my cost. Not looking to profit, just trying to take full advantage of the alpine head unit. Let me know.

I've gotten a few PMs, and replied to them, about the harness. I've exhausted all sources I've got to attempt to make the USB harness for this to work in other/older vehicles. Your best bet at this point is to use one or more of the solutions other members of ScionLife.com have figured out in this post, or ideally find a wrecked 2010 and ****** the wiring out of it and make your own.

I'm not sure if any newer Scions have the same USB connector on them for USB functionality.

I'm surprised the availability of these parts (USB harness, video input harness, etc..) exhausted so soon.

If someone can get the pin out for the USB, I think I might be able to fabricate something. It probably won't have the plastic click-in fascia piece for inside the center console, but would be functional.

A few quick questions on the rear view camera, i dont have the kit and am ready to wire it up myself.

Is this everything?

Camera directly hooked up to the RCA in

Reverse wire, where do i tap into the reverse wire? where does the oem cable connect to, to get this? Can i hook this up to any power source, so that i can turn the camera on in any gear? Thanks

Ground, i assume this is to any ground?
