The reverse wire is along the drivers side under the black trim. I believe it's a red wire. There are a few red wires so make sure you meter it before tapping into it. So you'd prolly need to run a wire from there to the back of your head unit to connect to the head unit. Not sure what the factory setup is like but in the head unit you will have to set it up to accept a positive trigger to switch the screen to the camera. You could hook the power of the camera to the acc wire since you won't need constant power to it.

Ground, i assume this is to any ground?
The video for the camera is plugged into the yellow rca on the back of the HU. I think the location of the reverse wire depends on what scion you have. On the tc1 it can be found behind the glovebox. It is the pink wire in the 20 pin connector. The OEM cable to enable the camera plugs into port number 2 on Dave's diagram of the back of the HU. It has two wires coming out of it. One is the reverse wire to enable the camera and the other is ground wire (supposed to go to the parking break) to enable video playback. If you just want the back up camera then all you need is the wire that taps the reverse wire. I would assume that you can tap any power source and put an in-line switch in to turn the camera on and off.

I found mine in both my 2010 and 2012 xb in the bundle of wires running towards the back. I'm sure it can be found in the plugs but its hard to tap the lines when they're bent the way they are. I know in both mine it was a red wire that was thicker than all the rest. Just had to meter everything tile I found it.

How do you meter the wires? do you have to splice into each one?

the clips I have for my multi meter have little spikes that pierce the jacket of the wire enough to beable to read voltage without exposing the wire or having to cut open the jacket of every wire.

Soo.. I may just be going batsh!t crazy here.. but I do believe I have found a replacement for the alpine video input harness. I don't know.. perhaps somebody who is lucky enough to have acquired one will tell me if its true, but does this look like the alpine video input kit.. Does this look like something that can be modified or possibly used to put video to the Unit?

That wide connector in that picture doesn't appear that it's for the 2010 Alpine head unit. That's just my guess though.

I was also looking at this one.. this looks like the blue connector on the back that is for audio video input.. would this work, or is there a ground something or other that also need to take place? http://www.beatsonicusa.com/stereo/c...e-harness.html
Perhaps even this one>>>

That looks like it pairs with this one?>>>

If you look at the first page I posted a diagram of all the connectors on the back of the Alpine unit. The video input harness is only for inputting video from an iPod or DVD player, etc.. It is not for the backup camera functions at all, so no ground/+12V signal is needed. So the only one in that list that might be viable (depending on the connector) is the first one, the other two are no-gos. The part number moniker "AVC1" sounds Pioneerish, while the '10 unit is an Alpine. They also only list the '06-'07 xB, but I'm unsure of what radio would this would be needed on an '06-'07 xB. I wasn't aware of any video input options on the xB 1.0.

I'm going to make my own.. found this info and I'm good to go..
From this guy and website:>>> http://clubsciontc.com/forums/mobile...pine-hu-43684/

"Here are the Pin Out

Look at the gray input connector. The pin all the way to the left (as you are looking at it) needs to tap into reverse trigger (blue wire on the above pic). The pin all the way on the right is the pin that needs to be grounded(green wire on the above pic) Also remember you need to go into the HU menu and turn on the rear camera.

You can add a switch to the trigger wire and supply 12 volts to manually turn on the cam whenever you want.

The blue connector is Audio and video channel Input. As you are looking at the pins:

Top left pin - Left Channel Positive
Bottom Left pin - Left Channel Negative
Middle Pin - Right Channel Positive
Middle Bottom - Right Channel Negative
Top Right Pin - Video Channel Positive
Bottom Right Pin - Video Channel Negative"

On the note of the AVC1 Harness from Beat Sonic, I have been speaking with their customer service rep and he was kind enough to send me a picture of the plastic connection.
Attached the close up of the connection... looks.. promising. I've gone ahead and ordered one and I'll report back if it indeed works.

This looks a lot like the connector I am using to fabricate the cable except that it is white. However, I have discovered that the color really depends on your supplier. I have seen gray, white, and blue ones. Also, As I am sure you know, this will not work without the other harness that controls the backup camera. I got a price quote on what I think is the blue connector from my local dealership and it was 7$ and one day away. Seems like you can fabricate your own harness for cheaper, especially since you have the pinout. I am pretty sure I have tracked down a supplier of the tiny metal pins that go inside the connector and will let you know if they are the right ones as soon as I get them ordered.

Default Update

So I finally got around to ordering the little metal pins that go inside the connectors. I received them this last friday and they look very promising. I only ordered 10 for now, but can easily get more. The backup camera harness has two wires (although mine works with only 1 wire, I think the ground wire on that is for the parking break thing with the ipod video input cable) and the video input cable takes six wires. I have gotten a couple PMs, but they mostly seem like they are for the back-up camera only. If anyone is interested in either of the cables, let me know. I am hoping to make one of each so I can confirm that I can fabricate them both in working condition. Thanks.

I ordered the alpine off of eBay for $200 shipped, all I care about is that it charges and plays music from my iPod so all I should need is the replacement USB harness right? I plan to just run it to the glove box until I can figure something out with replacing the center armrest with the new type as mine is a 08.

I have successfully fabricated both the back-up camera harness and the video input harness. Tested both today, and both of them worked as they should. I am more than willing to share the part numbers and the vendors for ordering supplies to make them and offer whatever help I can.

I am very interested in making the harness part for the back up camera function. Not too concerned about video input.

Can you post up or send me a PM with the part #'s and vendors of where I can get the plug and pin(s) I need to do the back up camera input?

Thanks!

For the backup camera harness you will need the following:

1 of Toyota part number 90980-11909 around $4-5
1 of http://search.digikey.com/us/en/prod...2CT-ND/2421665 (first class mail is usually the cheapest.)
You will also need some 22 gauge wire and 1 wire tap.

there is a thread on here by CREEPUR that shows you which wires go where. Since you are interested in back up camera functionality only you WILL NOT need a ground wire in the harness. The ground wire is for video playback through the video input harness. You can still add it if you want it, but you will need an additional pin and a wire tap. Feel free PM me if you need more info or help. You will have to crimp the pins around the wire PROPERLY, which can be frustrating.

Got the plug and pins in today. Looking at the plug, it looks like the correct one to fit the #2 receptacle in the picture. Need to order the camera now.
