Default Basic Amp install question

Can I install an Amp and SubBox without having to tap into the back of the dash unit.

Basically, can I install an Amp/SubBox without having to pull out the dash unit, and by simply tapping into the rear speaker inputs (and battery, of course).

Yes, but if you have available preamp outputs you'd be better off using those.

you would need to run a wire with a switch to your remote input on the amp if you don't tap into the remote wire on the back of the deck. otherwise your amp would never shut off.

it takes like a minute to pull the head unit, any additional time would be to run the wires and not make it look half-assed. You're gonna have to run the power cable back to the amp anyway so you might as well do all the cables....why wouldn't you want to do it that way?

not true, could tap into any switched source of power, at the ignition harness, fusebox, cigarette lighter, etc.

but it would just be easy to pull the radio, there's plenty of posts on this, or just go to metraonline.com then search for the dash kit for your vehicle, and pull up the guide on how to remove the radio, easy

Tapping into the rear speakers (in the rear doors) would probably be more difficult than pulling the stereo and pluging into the rca jacks.

As for the remote wire, In my experience, a wire from the battery to a switch and on into the Amps "remote wire" plug works pretty good, but Ive drained my battery on more than one occasion because I forgot to turn it off. I now prefer to pull the power from a switched ignition source like Slody4Butal sugested.

Youe not gonna tap you back speakers, but you could tap the wires to the back speakers at the B-Pillar. Just run the RCA's. The Scion radio takes all of 2 minutes total to take out. It's really easy and your sound quality will be better and you should have some sub controls on your head unit.

Tapping into the head unit is really easy. It's the running the wire to the cargo area that's a pain (taking off the rear seat, pulling up carpet, cleaning up the old french fries under seats).
