CarPC in the xB2??
Hey everyone..
Ok.. I'm thinking of trading in my xB1 for an xB2. The biggest thing is, right now, I have a CarPC in my xB and I absolutely love it. Even though the NAV is cool in the new ones, it just doesnt come close to the CarPC...I'd like to do the CarPC in the xB2 but I already see a couple problems.
1. There is no place to put an actual 1din radio like I have in the compartment in mine under the AC controls.. I use the radio as the amp and as a backup just in case the CarPC takes a dump on a long trip.. Any suggestions?
2. Right now, the CarPC is mounted under the passenger seat on my xB. It doesnt look like there is enough space under the xB2 passenger seat to do this. Other than the trunk, is there somewhere else I might consider installing it that would get good ventilation.
3. Would I be better of trading in my Scion right now with the CarPC in it and just starting over or should I take it out and put in the original radio? I didnt know if the CarPC would help or hurt the value.. Also, the screen itself was fiberglassed into the dash. When I go to trade in, should I have a new dash piece ready to put in or should I tell the dealer to order a new dash piece and/or deduct that off of the trade in amount?
Any help would be appreciated!!

i have a problem too. i want to trade in my G1 for the G2, but my situation has more to do with credit. And i did add some mods to it that i don't know if it will hurt the value or make it better.

looks like it would fit under the seat as I had a large book underneath the seat similar in size to CPU,
I liked the Direct TV in the head rests & dash with only a 5 inch antenna on the roof, reception sounded pretty good!

I was thinking about an amp but I went with HU in the Glove with Steering wheel control so I don't have to see the HU.
I also use the HU for Video split for my Headrest Monitors.
I'll be putting an 8 inch wide screen in my dash.
I'm selling my old XB1 8 inch molded dash!!

i was gona ask you if you wanted the screen to look FLUSH mounted or if you would mind having the screen mounted to the dash in a "temporary fashion."
you can buy an HP E-PC thin client which will run about 300 to 400 bux. it's an entire pc, in a tiny case, like half the size of a show box, and you can put that under the seat. you can then use a 7" lilliput monitor but you would have to build/fabricate/velcro it onto your dash. it would be ugly but it would be a working solution.
for more info, i am sure u know of www.mp3car.com . go to the "show off your project" section of that site to get ideas of how you wana mount / install your pc/monitor. that site has tons of various installs, from desktops in cars, to laptops, etc.
which reminds me - another good alternative is to buy a high end laptop with a broken screen. that way you dont need to buy a wireless USB nic, a USB bluetooth adapter etc (if you use that stuff.) - it'll already be on board.
as for my setup, im using a tablet laptop for my "carPC" needs - nothing installed/embedded into my car. that way, the laptop goes with me when i wanna take it!

So, after thinking it over with my audio guy, I'm gonna go with the Alpine VehicleHub Pro VPA-B222 instead of a Head unit.
