DYI for PAC SWI-JACK
New here. I have searched and can't find a DIY for installing the PAC SWI-JACK. I had a Kenwood DDX-512 installed and want my steering wheel controls. The installer wants $70.00 to install. Just trying to save money. Any help would be greatful. Thanks in advance.

I just completed the install for my DDX-8019. The instructions that came with the PAC is all that's needed. The most difficult thing was understanding which wire the HU wanted the signal on.
The harness wires are very thin. and the white wire from the PAC is much thicker. I choose to feed the resistor into the pin hole and tape it to the connector. I soldered the other end to the end of the white wire, and then vamped the white wire and harness wire together. This allows for easy reversal.
I also found the program steps (#18-24) unintuitive. You end of pushing the button on the PAC then tapping the steering wheel button. As there are 5 buttons but 7 programming options, you'll be skipping some but hitting the PAC button without touching the steering wheel.
Note, if you press and hold the steering wheel button while programming, the PAC will interpret the length of signal too and forward multiple impulses to the head unit. In my case, the volume wouldn't respond at all (too short) or would jump multiple levels.
If necessary, you can reprogram the PAC as many times as needed to get things working right. The wires are long enough to keep the PAC in the glove box until you're done fiddling.

I'm in the process of installing the PAC SWI-PS and I'm a little confused with the instruction. From my understanding, on the PAC, I'll tap the red and black for + and -. But based on the information below, do I tap the pin 6 to - too? Whats the best way to connect pin 6, 7, and 8 without soldiering?
Will the LED on the steering wheel control turn on after installing the PAC?
" Connect pin 6 wire to ground. Connect pin 7 to the INTERFACE's White wire. Connect one end of a 150 ohm resistor to pin 8, then connect the other end of the resistor to the INTERFACE's white wire. So basically you will have two wires, one with a resistor in series, connected to the INTERFACE's White wire. If the vehicle has Phone options on the steering wheel and you want to use them to control the radio, please use a 560 ohm resistor instead of the 150 ohm resistor indicated. Map/Info button is not used."

SWI-PS, where do you hood the power wire? Into the same plug that the radio uses for power, ground to chassis? Or can I tap into the ground wire on the stereo wire plugs into?
Are all the connections for the PAC done on the stereo plug at the wires on the car side of the plug? Meaning on the back side of the plug?
