Default Soundproofing the doors, need advice.

I am about to install some aftermarket components in my doors and I wanted to sound deaden the door panels while I was in there. Problem is, I am not sure what I am supposed to lay the deadener over the top of. I realize that I am supposed to lay the deadener over metal but there is a plastic moisture barrier taking up much of the door. Do I lay it over that? Do I remove it altogether?

So what's the proper way to deaden the door?

Also, if anybody can tell me how much deadener to buy to do both front doors that would be helpful as well.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Here's your best advice, don't bother. The only thing you are going to want to focus on is your rear hatch latch. That is the only thing that will give you problems or rattling. "Deadening" the doors isn't going to do anything but fill your doors will crap. Also, feel free to apply this knowledge to any vehicle, not just Scions.

go here.... search for sound deadening on youtube

All the above links were found with either google search or using that tiny little search feature in the upper right hand corner of the scionlife web page. Dont listen to anyone that says it is not worth it. I've been in car & home audio/visual for a long time and if you like your sound and your silence then you will deaden every car you own, yes even a caddy could use extra deadening. You'll need about 150-200 sq ft for your whole car. Half will be in the floor and the hatch, the other half in the doors. The first time you close your doors and the make the right sound (whoooomp) not clank you will appreciate the job you did.

Thats complete Bologna, You want to deaden your doors to eliminate transient distortion and I guarantee you your system will sound like an entirely different system. Remove the plastic and good luck getting all the black gunk off.. Then apply your deadener and then you foam barrier.. Just make sure you mark where all your connectors come through. its never fun guessing..
