Alan wrench pulls the airbag off, then a screw in each and then just pull, they have single pins that hold them in place, 2 small screws on the back of the buttons to remove the switchbox and mode button

make sure you disconnect the battery. You dont want the airbag to accidentally go off in your face while working on it. better safe than sorry.

So you can't remove the silver pieces without disconnecting the battery and removing the center piece?

nope, cause there is a screw that holds it in. once you take the airbag off, you can get to it. by the way, to take the airbag off, its a t-30 torx bit. make sure you disconnect the battery and leave it off for at least 90 seconds. there still a charge and if you mess with the wires for the airbag, you might set it off. i just put on a leather wrapped steering wheel and love the feel.
