Lol. Sadly, I don't own a sawsall.

I did find a DIY for taking off the pieces on the steering wheel. However, taking those off scares me because of airbag blowout, so I am thinking that those are going to remain silver.....

I would bet that was my DIY. Don't worry about the airbag. Just disconnect the battery negative, wait 5 minutes, and you'll be fine. The airbag will be fully discharged and you can pull the wheel apart to paint. I've taken mine apart multiple times with no issues.

Ahh, why would you tell me that. My wife is going to kill you....

I keep taking things off my car and saying "Honey, would you mind painting this for me.."

Shes about ready to kill me I think (but I am completely incapable of spraypainting properly, no idea why, just can't properly do it)

Looks like I know what I am doing this weekend. Thanks Greg!

It's easy. So easy even a 40yr old mom can do it.

Ha ha ha. Thank you for the vote of confidence. I have a ton of sanding to do this weekend, and some varnishing. Were making an entire block set for my new nephew from scratch.

Next weekend I am going to attempt to rip apart the steering wheel, and the door pieces, and possibly the C-pillars if I have time. I am also going to paint the lever on the glove box, because a little red would brighten that right up, I think.

Also, the glove box is a pain in the butt to get back in, that's why I am painting it, because I was too lazy to spend the time to put it back together :-)

Can anyone recommend a good clear coat? I am currently using Krylon, but I was hoping to find something that would make the parts a lot more scratch resistant, especially on places where a lot of "traffic" occurs, such as door parts, the shifter section, and the steering wheel controls. The krylon works pretty well as a clear coat, but it is not very scratch resistant.

Maybe a product like this doesn't exist.

No one has any suggestions on this one? I may just use the Krylon if no one has a better suggestion.

Bump. Ended up using the krylon. Turned out pretty well. Pics are in the very first post.
