Default 08 XB First Warranty issue???

So I got in this morning and was looking at my dash and saw that right above my speedo the plastic looks warped and hanging down. Is that normal?

wow. thats something i will look for when i get mine. i am gonna look over the whole truck before i even drive it off the lot. between this and the paint issue one person had with the white one, you can never be too careful.

was it like that when you got it or did it just appear?

seems kinda like the tc's dash bubble problems. different interior materials don't do so great in the heat. i think the newer ones are recycled plastic. probably just a bit off formula wise. take it back get a new top dash.

Looks like that GM influence is showing up again! That warped plastic looks like something out of a 1985 Chevy Citation, or a 1985 Pontiac Firebird!

i'm thinking a plastic tab just got misaligned.

the dash piece is easily removeable... just start yanking at the far right of that piece.

are you sure it's warped? or is it just bent out of place?

Nope, shouldn't look like that. The xB2s I was in all had proper fit of that piece - it cleared the tops of the "gauges" by a good margin.

I was pressing on it yesterday and looks like it is a little warped, if I push it back up, then some other part pushes out. I probably won't have time to get it in for a few days, maybe Monday. But all in all, not that big of a deal. Let's hope this is the one and only problem

I'd be happy to explain...

The Citation was produced from 1980-1985. From 1980-1984, it had a perfectly good, well-made dash. But it had a quirky vertically-oriented radio instead of the usual horizontal radio. (Scion wasn't the first to make quirky dashes! ) For some reason, in 1985 they redesigned the dash and positioned the radio horizontally. It was a nice looking dash but virtually every single one of them had a problem with warping plastic at the top center area.

The F-car interiors were exceedingly nice from 1982-1984 but were redesigned in 1985 and a similar problem cropped up in the Pontiacs where the plastic around the shifter in the center console would warp and deform.

I really hope that the problem in this one xB is a fluke and not a widespread problem as it was in the GM cars of the mid-eighties.

Hmmm.... will be better to wait until the 09 xb. Where Toyota has time to iron the wrinkles.

I hope it doesn't take that long to resolve. This is only May of 07. The 09 xB wont be around until Sept/Oct of 08. That's about a year and a half from now!

If this turns out to be a widespread issue, better hope Toyota steps up to the plate and issues a recall to fix this now.

(If widespread, it wouldn't be a "recall" because it is not a safety item. It would be a less formal internal procedure, probably just a TSB.)

Cell phones cause cancer and explosions at gas stations.

Just a few unwarranted histeria items.

RELAX. The tone of this thread makes it sound like the whole line of cars are pieces of junk because one dash piece. Does toyota expect perfection - yes. But they will fail to achieve it.

Relax. Go take a ride in your new xb (those of you who have yours already :D)
