2008 xB MPG

Damn. I got all excited to see this thread. Then I realized it was one of the hundreds already out there regarding the predicted mileage of the new xB. Seriously, every other thread mentions this. I now hate tcmike for wasting my time.

Because the 2008 EPA Fuel Economy ratings involve quicker acceleration and declerations of vehicles including the new highway rating test with speeds up to 80 mph and and also takes into account of air conditioner use and outside temperatures, car manufacturers can optimize the computer controlled engine management, with such tweaks as transmission shift points, torque curve mondifications, etc. to somewhat conteract the effects of the newer more realistic fuel economy ratings. It is well known that many manufacturers opitimized the "chips" in their vehicles to gain higher EPA economy ratings under the older system with its slower acceleration rates, lower speeds, etc.
So a positive consequence could be that 2008 vehicles could be optimized for 65 to 70mph highway fuel economy instead of 55mph in the older test.
My real point is that the fuel consumption for 2008 vehicles could be lower (i.e. higher mpg) for everyday driving than it would otherwise be if the new method was not adopted.
Whether the 2008 xB has the chip optimized is yet to be seen. I'm sure the shift points are going to be different compared to Camry and tC and the valve timing and duty cycle timings of the fuel injectors may be modified for best fuel economy at say, for example 2800rpm instead of 2400rpm. I understand the gear ratios are the same as the tC's.

I welcome any constructive comments on the xB's fuel economy.

Also, how has this thread become the main mileage thread? Including your post and the original topic post, there are only 4 on-topic posts in this thread, none of which have revealed any new information.
If the mods wanted this to become the new mileage thread, I doubt they would have mocked its creator and allowed off-topic banter to continue until you came in. Lose the condescending attitude, your ____ stinks too.
