Default 2008 xB Paint Peeling

Just a word of warning to my fellow xB2 owners. I just discovered that my paint has split and is peeling along the edge of my drivers side front fender, right on the outside edge where the fender rolls under the wheel well.

The paint has split approximately 5 inches along the edge and the paint is lifting from the panel. There is a flap that has literally peeled away too.

There is no evidence that it was touched by anything.

Of course this just happened at 37,700 on the odometer which probably means it is out of warranty but needless to say paint should not be splitting and peeling at that mileage.

Going to take to Avondale Toyota (Avondale, AZ) and see what they say.

If anyone has had a similar experience and can recommend a dealer that is good at handling these issue in the Phoenix, AZ area please let me know.

I am hoping the dealer will still cover it under warranty since it isn't even 2k over the 36,000 miles.

I have bought two Scions there in recent years and they have exclusively services my vehicles.

Check those fenders and paint in general before your warranty expires!!!

Check the warranty paper work. I think the paint is covered later than 36,000 miles. Not positive but I'm pretty sure it is. As long as it is a defect and not damage or from neglect (i.e. not washing/waxing) it should be covered.

paint is normally a year thing not a mileage thing, a lot like rust. It should be covered

I used to live in AZ a few years ago. I dont have any experience specifically with paint issues with them... but I had a few of my Toyotas worked on at Big Two Toyota on the South side in Chandler. They were honest about the things I had them do on my Toyotas there.

Talked to the service manager, Scott. He checked my fenders to make sure they had not been rolled, which they had not. He took pictures of the peeling area and the vehicle information and said he would submit to the local Toyota rep who would make the call since it is a little over the 3yr/36k warranty.

According to Scion's website, they waranty rust protection for unlimited miles and for 5 years. To me, something like paint flaking in an isolated spot, is either external damage from a rock or something starting it, or the paint in that area never took to the metal the right way. I'm curious to see how Scion handles this matter, as it could go either way. I wish you the best of luck.
