Default 2012 Remote Start Issue

Evening folks,

Bought my '12 BSP xB last Thursday and had the remote start (Toyota) installed as part of the deal. It works most times...but not every time. When it doesn't work, it's like it didn't try cranking the xB long enough. Just quits after a set time and the xB isn't started yet. This kindof defeats the purpose - as you have to get in the car to start it then.

Anybody else run into this? I went by the dealer today to see if there was something they could adjust, and they're having me leave it with them tomorrow so they can send it to their alarm/remote start installer in town...

Anybody else with an aftermarket remote start system that works and integrates with the factory keyfob?

Thanks for any help and insight

You might want to try and reset the car to see if that fixes the issue. Simply unplug the negative battery terminal and leave it to sit for several minutes.

I have the TRD remote start that I installed myself on my 08 xB. If I had a Check Engine Light or any other error code, the car would shut off whenever I tried to start it up. Perhaps you have this issue too.

^ horn warning, If you have the Toyota alarm it will go off in your face when you reconnect the battery.

Thanks guys. Based on the TRD sparks installation PDF, I don't think they installed a Toyota remote start - even though it works via the lock button on the key. Here's why: I remote start by pressing lock 3 times, no holding down. Then I can unlock the door with the key and the engine stays running (can't unlock with they keyfob though). Neither of these is consistent with the install guide or others experience.

In a way I'm thankful...an aftermarket remote start should be adjustable and not have the classic Toyota remote start issues. We'll see tomorrow - she gets dropped off at Gullo Toyota in Conroe.

I'll keep you guys posted and get some more info on the manufacturer of the remote start
