abs braking
i had to test my abs braking tonight on the way home when this guy in a mercedes stopped short while turning a corner and i was a little too close! all i can say is they worked perfectly!
i hit the brakes and the abs kicked in and i came within an inch or so of his bumper. he stopped so suddenly i had braced for an impact with his bumper but the abs kept me from skidding and saved my front end! :D i was not completely sure i had not touched his rear bumper till i pulled over and took a look at my bumper...
good to know they are there when i need it

Glad to hear that you reacted properly and the ABS did it's job. The only accident I've ever had was in a Chevy work truck with ABS and my many years of self-modulating non-ABS brakes caused it. When I tried to modulate the brake effort it was as though I had no brakes at all because the ABS reacted so slowly. I hope that next time I can resist the urge to self-modulate the brakes and just slam the pedal to the floor like a soccer mom would. It's just soooo counter-intuitive to me.

I really hope that newer ABS systems don't work like that early-90s Chevy truck's did. Initially I hit the brakes hard and when I felt the wheels lock-up and slide, I lifted just a little and the brakes fully released, When I went back for them it was as if there were no brakes at all and I rammed a van at ~20mph. It felt like a slow motion dream where I had no control over the outcome.
The experience really soured me on ABS brakes in general but since you can't even disasble them anymore, I should probably go aclimate myself to them in an empty parking lot like I used to do when practicing for auto-x.
Sorry to hear that you had the same experience with Chevy's early ABS attempt but I also feel somewhat validated by it.

Had to use my brakes pretty hard once already. I still felt incontrol of my car while the abs was functioning. Didn't even come close to the vehicle in front of me. I do think it is a good idea to try a parking lot brake test so you would know what to expcet.
My verdict is that the new xb has a great braking system and the new rear discs make me feel even more comfortable.
