Default Alarm install voids warranty?

I was told by me Scion Rep at Longo Scion that if I were to have a non-Scion branded alarm installed, that this would void my warranty. Is this true? And are people still installing 3rd party alarms anyways?

I was contimplating installing a third party alarm on my own, just to add to the factory alarm....but if it voids it, I wouldn't do it.

you can add an after market alarm as long as a Toyota Dealer installs it. if you go to Best Buy ect....and they cut wires ect to make the alarm work they have to go to the brain of the car if you have a problem later it will not be cover..
Heres an example yesterday we had a tc that came to our store when the customer turn the car off the car would stay running it was because the place that did his alarm and stereo did not do it wright...it cust the custmer $550 out of his pocket to get the problem fix...and future problems like that will not be cover by scion because he took it to an after market place.

Technically it depends on what is wrong. Basically if you install something and it breaks then it is not toyota then it is not covered by toyota.

If you install something and another part breaks, the dealer needs to prove that what you installed is the direct cause of the failure of the other part.

For example, new stereo and then your tranny goes out.
But it can be a pain to get stuff covered if it's been altered, even if aftermarket parts aren't direct cause, dealers and manufacturers can drag their feet causing you problems and then YOU have to prove aftermarket parts were not direct cause of problem
