Why would he be kidding? I have seen someone autocross a Dodge Ram 3500 diesel Dually. You don't have to be competitive to have fun.

Plus, if you did some minor suspension work to the xB, (most importantly a rear swaybar), it would do pretty well. Of course, driver skill counts for a lot more than car in autocross.

 

why am i kidding????must be alot of straight line racers here!!!! take your car down some twisty roads and push the limits of it see how much fun it is and it takes longer to do than a drag race 12 seconds and done dont know about you but i like my fun to last alot longer than that

 

whoa take it easy. i got an xB2 and imo its not worth it. thats what the tc is for imo. chill no straight line racin for me either.

 

someone is drifitng a honda element i beleive it is, and is actually doing pretty good

 

i actually pre-registered for an SCCA event here in chicago last month, but with a conflict in scheduling i could not attend

the xB should have no problems with autocrossing -- work on your lines and braking, and the times should fall accordingly

 

i auto-x here at school alot. i ussually run right with the neons and jettas but im not too far behind this kid with an RX-7

and 1 more thing... the stock tires blow even the tires scion puts on the trd 19's suck... wayyyy too much sidewall flex

 

auto cross isnt about having the fastest car.. its more focused on being a better driver, and having some fun.. id love to fix the suspension on my car and autocross it, my friend does it with his BMW M3, and his girlfriends Mini Cooper S.. yes they are faster then the xB.. but they tell me they see guys in xB's quite often

Back in '76 (you know, like, that last millenium) I had a stock Civic wagon that I took to an autocross. Dropped tire PSI to about 23 all around and just ran the poop out of the sucker: shift_shift_shift, left-foot braking, handbrake pulls, sideways a lot, fun/Fun/FUN. I beat the 'seasoned veteran' who had tipped me off on the tires, and would've gotten a trophy if there'd only been another car in our class. Apparently it takes more than two cars competing in a class to earn a trophy LOL!!!

I've driven my 05 toaster 5spd over the same hilly/twisty bits that I used to run in an Audi 80 quattro--and the box was a LOT more composed with less drama. Light weight, predictable/progressive handling, and a large smile are the things that make autocross/solo I so much damn fun.

 

i hear ya short bus i find twisty roads that i ride my motorcycle on and then take my xb on damm its so much fum we dont have much of a scca following here in southern massachusetts but there r a few i would like to try

 

you might want to also try seeing if other clubs hold autox events

here in chicago, both the Miata and Audi quattro clubs hold various autox events throughout the year
they're always happy to have us

 

I'm planning to race my 08 xB on the local circuit soon, the first race will be on December, I share some pics of the Event, Here the're 2 xB Fisrt gen, racing and they are making good times @ time attack.

My first gen does pretty well with autox. I have a great time doing it. Im curious to see how the second gen would do.

 

I need to work out with the suspention, one of the things that I like on the SecGen, it's heavier that the Tc almost 200 pounds and that gave you and advantage on the roll, let's see. I already install the AEM Intake, and make a custome exaust with a Magnaflow muffler and it's sound very nice, I also eliminate the torpido style resonator, and you feel the difference on torque. I was looking over the underdrive pulley thread, to see if you have some advantage but, I dont know...

 

I've been looking into racing my box (which I feel is pretty tight with the suspension mods I have) and our local Finger Lakes chapter is (understandably) sticking with the national rules which specifically prohibit the xB from running in ANY class.

From the 2008 rulebook:

"A Solo event is open to any vehicle that can pass safety inspection...

...etc...

but then

...Unstable vehicles with a high center of gravity and a narrow track, including SUV's, minivans, and 4WD pickups, must be excluded (e.g. Suzuki Samurai, Scion XB, Jeep CJ series, and GEO Tracker/Suzuki Sidekick)."



The local chairman is suggesting that I contact the national SCCA office to try to get approval, given that my setup is not stock. I see some others on here have raced SCCA so I assume you had to get national approval as well? Any pointers on how to attack this would be great. Thanks!

 

Some idiot must have thrown race slicks on a stock-suspension 1st gen xB (I think it has a higher CG?) and rolled it or something.

 

The new rules are holding me back from driving this year. I have to co-drive in a tC to stay in the same class. There is talk about reviewing the xB. Mostly for stock suspension guys would be a risk of rollover. Never had problems in the past with a 1gen xB.

 

well i did the autcross course in fontana speedway with my 2nd gen 2 weeks ago and had no issues at all their was a lot of 1st gen running their boxes

 

I've done it a couple of times in my 2006 xB - along with the usual country road corner carving- and it's a blast! With just sway bars, 2" drop progressive InTrax springs and Koni shocks, it actually handles pretty decently. Heck, I've walked away from several small sports cars and even a Mini on our local canyon road!
The deal is to have fun with what you've got and not worry about what other people think!
